    jeff-goldblum

He may not be returning to Jurassic Park but the awesomeness that is known as Jeff Goldblum will return to fight the second wave of aliens.

The Huffington Post asked Goldblum about the possibility of David Levinson returning in Independence Day 2. He had this to say about his talks with director Roland Emmerich:

“Yeah, they’ve talked to me about it and I’ve talked to them about it and they’re excited and I’m anxious and eager to see — I haven’t read anything — what they cook up. You know, I think they’re trying to put it together.”

So at this point, who needs Will Smith? The Fresh Prince may have said no but now ID4-2 (?) will have The Blum.

    Star-Wars-Episode-7-Millennium-Falcon

Our new feature will give you the quick hits from the world of the interwebs in movies, games, TV, ballroom dancing, lighting fixtures, whatever catches our eye.

    Movies

    Star Wars Episode VII

There are reports from multiple sites and sources that both Benedict Cumberbatch AND Gary Oldman are set for the next Star Wars directed by J.J. Abrams. If this is true, the force is strong with this movie. As long as the name Hayden Christensen is nowhere to be found.

    The Amazing Spider-Man 3

Marc Webb will come back to direct the third (sixth) Spider-Man movie. They will be wasting no time. It is planned for release on June 10, 2016.

    Dredd 2

While in Germany at a Star Trek convention, Karl Urban said that conversations had started with Lionsgate and writer Alex Garland about a follow-up to 2012’s amazing Dredd. The film bombed at the box office but since has picked up a lot of ground in DVD and Blu-Ray sales.

    Indiana Jones

It looks like Harrison Ford is on his way to donning his whip and fedora two more times. The price for getting him back to do Star Wars may have been a commitment by Disney (who bought the rights to Indy as well) to make two more Dr. Jones tales. What will they do about Indy’s kid since Shia is not famous anymore (his words, not mine)?

    Console Wars

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are keeping busy with their work to bring Preacher to AMC and now they are wanting to make a film version of Blake Harris’ Console Wars which tells of Nintendo and Sega’s fight for supremacy in the 90’s.

    Independence Day 2

Will Smith has officially said no to the sequel because he is too busy riding the wave of money made by After Earth last year. He won’t be in the sequel to the one sci-fi movie people want to see him in but he will make garbage with Shyamalan?

    TV

    Heroes

Did you hear the big news? NBC is pulling a 24 and bringing back Heroes for a 13 episode mini-series in 2015. The run will feature all-new characters although they say that some people from the original run may return. They were doing so well until they said that.

    Games

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

The next-gen version of the prequel to The Phantom Pain has been dropped in price by 25% to $29.99. Likewise, I am now 25% more likely to buy the game.

    Titanfall

The shooter will require up to 40GB of space on your Xbox One. Damn next-gen, you take up space.

    World of Warcraft

If you want more than one of your WOW characters to level up to 90 it is going to cost you. The new expansion, Warlords of Draenor, will allow you to level one character up to 90 but other characters will run you $60. For a game that has been taking $15 a month from around ten million people for a decade, that’s harsh.

  • Independence Day 2 Pushed To 2016

    IndependenceDay

It looks like we will have to wait another year before aliens return to destroy us all. The sequel to Independence Day has been delayed a year from to July 3, 2015 to July 1, 2016.

This move works for the movie in two different ways. First, it will move the sequel out of the overcrowded summer of 2015 which will see the release of The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Batman vs. Superman, Terminator 5 and Pirates of the Caribbean 5. Second, it will have the film releasing almost twenty years to the day of the first one. Independence Day released on July 3, 1996.

Director Roland Emmerich has said that there are two scripts written for the movie depending on if Will Smith signs on for the sequel or not.

  • Hollywood In 2015: Something’s Gotta Give

    tumblr_mayqbd9DTy1qg9cujo1_500

We are all used to big summer movie seasons. It is a part of movie culture and it is one of the few reasons to actually get excited about sweating your balls (or other various parts) off in the baking sun. But is Hollywood headed for a year of heartbreak? Two years from now will be the biggest movie year in history. Not just summer, but for 365 days we will be given a deluge of big-budget extravaganzas like we have never seen before in such a short period.

This would indicate that Hollywood should reach their highest box office total ever, but with so many huge event and franchise movies in such a short time will we get burned out? Chances are that a few of these offerings will either not meet lofty expectations or completely bomb altogether just because of the competition releasing so close together.

So now, let’s look in our crystal ball (which oddly looks like a box of Gobstoppers) and see what franchises are sure things and which ones may be left out to wither and die.

Note: These movies are for the entire calendar year of 2015, not just the summer season.

    Avengers: Age of Ultron

As close as you will get to a sure thing to make a billion dollars. Even if the story ends up being weaker than the first, people will show up in droves.

Completely off the radar until last week’s Comic-Con. Zack Snyder returning to direct and Christopher Nolan executive producing. Just don’t screw up the Batman casting and watch the money flow in.

    Star Wars: Episode VII

Disney is going to run this franchise into the ground with yearly movies, but this first one by J.J. Abrams should be a massive hit and hopefully set up a new trilogy well.

It will be 19 years between the original and the sequel when this hits. No Will Smith may hurt, but Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are returning and if they can cast some good new leads this could work. Will people still care after so long?

The fourth dino adventure will return to the original island. Jurassic Park 3 made its money back but failed to live up to the first two. Depending on release date, this may get lost in the shuffle.

On Stranger Tides was the first Pirates to not break $300 million domestically yet it was a huge hit worldwide being the first one in the franchise to cross $1 billion. Even if some are tired of Jack Sparrow, the rest of the world box office will make him a hit again.

    Finding Dory

Pixar has had a case of sequel-itis for a few years now and I have still not gotten my Incredibles 2. Finding Nemo is one of the most beloved of all the Pixar offerings so I think people will embrace this more than Cars 2 or even Monsters University.

As Marvel pulls farther into their hero pool, their gambles get bigger. Guardians of the Galaxy will put their muscle to the test next year. Ant-Man will have the distinction of being the first Marvel movie after Avengers 2 and Edgar Wright will easily make the movie entertaining. Will people embrace it?

World of Warcraft has almost 10 million subscribers that pay $15 a month to play so if a good portion of those pony up $10 a ticket it will have a decent opening weekend. The problem comes in convincing the general public to take the trip to Azeroth.

  • Jeff Goldblum And Bill Pullman Set To Return For Independence Day 2

    independence-day-movie-still-3

Maybe you were not excited at the news of a sequel to Independence Day a few days ago, but that is all about to change. Not only is Bill Pullman returning we also will get an actual Jeff Goldblum sighting in 2015. This is a rare thing. It is like seeing a rainbow colored unicorn pissing chocolate into a giant bowl of ice cream. I mean how many times do you see something like that in your life? Once, maybe twice considering how many times you ride the white pony?

Frankly I say it is a good thing Will Smith is off doing horrible Shaymalan movies because that just means more screen time for The Goldblum. Independence Day 2 just got good. Real good.

To celebrate next week’s July 4th holiday and the fact that we will get the ass end of an alien attack in 2015, have a quick laugh at the Honest Trailer for Independence Day.

  • Independence Day 2 Readies For 2015 Attack

    IndependenceDay2

After numerous years of rumors and promises it looks like Earth will be spending another 4th of July weekend fighting for our planet. 20th Century Fox has set that weekend in 2015 for the release of Independence Day 2.

Roland Emmerich will direct from a script he and Dean Devlin have written as the first of a two-part story. Bill Pullman is returning as the former President Thomas Whitmore as alien reinforcements arrive to have another go round with humanity 20 years after Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum welcomed them to Earth.

Smith will most likely not be coming back, but seeing as After Earth just took a Battlefield Eart sized dump at the box office and he has said no to Men in Black 4, he might want to rethink that decision. He needs a hit like a crack addict.
