    Previously on Retro Achievement List:

We here at Nerd Rating love achievements and trophies. We are admitted whores for them, but when you think about it, the practice of gamerscores is only seven years old with the introduction of the Xbox 360. We have 30 years of backlogged video games that need to be updated! So that is what we are venturing to do. Our new feature called Retro Achievement List will look back at games of the past and give them a set of achievements to strive for even if they may not seem serious.

Alright, here we are. Battletoads. The game that begged to ask “will kids buy a game with roided up toads whipping the ever loving shit out of pigs and rats?” The answer to that was a rather large and emphatic SHIT YEAH WE WILL! The game also fed our underlying addiction for punishment because I am not sure about you, but Battletoads was hard as shit. When you look back at some of the games we played as kids, it’s no wonder some of us grew up with anger issues.

It’s time for Battletoads to get its due with an achievement list of its very own. Radical!

    Achievement Unlocked:

    *Achievement #1

    toads1

Spend an excessive amount of time in your room, not playing Battletoads, but staring at a picture of the Dark Queen in your EGM.

    *Achievement #2

    toads2

Get into more than two arguments with classmates that Battletoads is not a ripoff of TMNT even though you know in your heart that it is.

    *Achievement #3

    toads3

Realize that your sophomoric humor comes from playing games that have enemies named Gonnad.

    *Achievement 4

    toads4

When you kill an enemy and your fist becomes large, wonder why the older people in the room laugh when you say “I fisted it!”.

    *Achievement #5

    toads5

Discover new meanings of rage when the vehicle levels boil down to pattern memorization….and your brain does not do that.

    *Achievement #6

    toads6

Perverted Star Wars fans disappointed when the level Wookie Hole does not meet expectations.

    *Achievement #7

    toads7

Break your big toe kicking your coffee table as you yell about every game having a fu**ing ice level that makes you slide around like an idiot.

    *Achievement #8

    toads8

Due to your age, have the complete phallic symbolism of riding giant snakes escape you.

    *Achievement #9

    toads9

Try and get a Battletoads movie Kickstarter going because of TMNT being sodomized by Michael Bay.

    *Achievement #10

    toads10

Write down a list of your favorite video game characters as a kid (Rash, Zitz, Pimple, Toe Jam, Earthworm Jim). Begin to see why your parents took you to see the “special doctor” when you were nine.

We want to hear from all of you also! What achievements would you add to Battletoads? Leave us a comment below or tweet us your responses on Twitter (@nerdrating) and use the hashtag #RetroAchievementList

  • The RetroN5 Announced… Wait Where’s The N4?

So remember earlier this month when we told you about the RetroN4, the console that would play NES, SNES, Genesis and Game Boy Advanced games? Well it seems that maker Hyperkin is going to toss any of those in the desert with all those lost Atari E.T. cartridges.

At the Midwest Gaming Classic show Hyperkin unveiled the RetroN5. It will play NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA and also Famicom games. SD card slot will be on the system for saves and it will come with an HDMI port and two Bluetooth controllers. Hyperkin hopes to releases the RetroN5 this summer for under 100 bucks.

At this rate you might as well wait until Christmas when they release the RetroN10 which will play NES, SNES, Master System, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Boy Advanced, Game Gear, Phillips CD-i, Jaguar and 3DO games.

  • Capcom Announces DuckTales Remastered. Life As I Know It Is Complete.

Today at PAX East Capcom dropped a bomb on the video game world and my childlike wonder. They announced that they will be releasing DuckTales Remastered, a redone version of the classic NES game that will release this summer on XBLA and PSN for $14.99.

Jesus, I can not tell you how many times I played through this game when I was a kid. Capcom may not know how to handle Mega Man, but it’s like they reached into my subconscious and pulled out one of the few happy moments with this announcement.

Watch the trailer below while I go touch myself and think about playing this game back when life was more than regret and disappointment and filled with cane jumping like a pogo stick and imagining one day when you could dive into your piles of riches like Scrooge McDuck.

  • Controller Inspired Cufflinks. For The Nerd With Important Places To Go.

Do you have an important function to go to? A nice dinner or maybe a wedding of a person that you don’t really consider a friend, but know well enough to put on a suit? Are you actually a very lonely gamer and sometimes you dress up while you play Dead or Alive and pretend that you are on a date with one of the chicks in the game?

Well Bazinga Jewelry is looking to cater to you. They are offering these video game controller inspired cufflinks for the man about town…and games. Each set will run you back $19.99 and they have choices that include the NES, SNES, Genesis, Xbox 360 and Playstation.

At the very least you could buy a set for that one magical day when you have to wear a nice suit and people will notice your mad cufflinks. So go buy them and call your grannie to see how she is feeling.

And now we play the waiting game.

  • Here Is The RetroN 4. Now You’re Playing With Power…And A Lot Of Holes

Have a look at this mixture of childhood dreams and Dr. Frankenstein engineering. This is the RetroN 4 which looks like Nintendo and Sega got together one night over some drinks and a carton of Marlboros and let nature run its course.

This machine can play NES, SNES, Genesis and Game Boy Advanced cartridges and keep you re-living the lost memories of your youth without having to search around in your parent’s storage room for the consoles you told them to take care of, but they just stuffed them in a box next to your old baseball trophies and dad’s extra two cycle oil.

    I digress.

Hyperkin will be showing off the RetroN 4 at the Midwest Gaming classic trade show on March 23rd. It comes two controller ports per system and a bluetooth controller that will allow you to customize your controls according to the system you are playing. An HDMI output makes for easy connection.

No release date has been given for the RetroN 4.

  • TMNT Come ‘Out Of The Shadows’ This Summer

One of the greatest days of my childhood was the day that I got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game for my NES. After pumping quarter after quarter of my mother’s hard earned money in the cabinet version, the mere fact I could spend as much time as I wanted at home bashing the Foot Clan to my heart’s content is one of those moments that make a childhood.

Now Activision may be trying to recapture a bit of that innocence, before life took over and showed me how jaded and cynical I should be, with the release of TMNT: Out of the Shadows. All that has been released is the short trailer below, but it looks like a straight up brawler in the vein of The Arcade Game and starring the newest incarnation of TMNT seen on Nickelodeon. Get the Part Wagon ready!

TMNT: Out of the Shadows releases this summer on Playstation Network and Xbox Live.

  • You Like Wii U Boxes? Here Is Your Fix!

    Gimme, Gimme, Gimme.

You know there is always more Wii U coverage around the corner! Here are some shots of what we (yes I did it) will be holding in our grubby little hands on November 18 when Nintendo releases their next console. I have bought every Nintendo system on day one (except the NES cause I was six) and the trend will continue.

Just in case you missed any of our coverage yesterday, the basic set will run you $299.99 and the deluxe will set you back $349.99 but really is the better deal with the extras Nintendo is throwing in.
