  • Hey! Buy Games! November 17-24, 2013

    Xboxone21

This week is the beginning of the next-gen console war where fanboys on both sides build up their system as the best out there while they play games that are available on both consoles. Five years from now Microsoft and Sony will each hold 48% of the market. Is it really a war if there is no winner?

The Xbox One is out this week and with it a host of launch games as well as some exclusives like Dead Rising 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome.

    Games! Go!

  • Killer Instinct FightStick Is Coming. Yes, Please

Thing I am excited about with the launch of the Xbox One: Killer Instinct. It is my favorite fighter ever and I am praying that it doesn’t get screwed up.

Thing I want that would make it better: This Killer Instinct FightStick by Mad Catz to complete my teenage years arcade experience.

Why it will not happen: $209.99.

I am pretty sure I could find a KI1 or KI2 arcade cabinet for $500. Screw that.

Killer Instinct releases on November 22nd with the Xbox One. It will be available as a download only title for free with Jago playable to everyone. Characters can be purchased individually or in a package.

  • Season 2 Of Killer Instinct Will Come To Xbox One In 2014

For those of you, like me, that are a bit disappointed that Killer Instinct will be launching on the [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVMI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Xbox One[/amazon_link] with only six fighters, worry not, more are on the way.

Season 2 of the game will release in 2014 and offer a new set of characters. Seasons will continue to be released on a regular basis continually adding to the character roster.

Killer Instinct is being released for the Xbox One at launch as a free title. Jago will be free for everyone to play. Additional fighters will be available for purchase for $4.99 or you can buy one of two packs that will give you every fighter and different bonus content for $19.99 and $39.99.

  • Here Is How Much You Will Be Paying For The New Killer Instinct

When you unbox your fancy new [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVMI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Xbox One[/amazon_link] this fall you will be able to download the new Killer Instinct for free. You will be able to play as Jago as much as you want and not spend a penny. But do you really only want to play as Jago? C’mon.

Each additional character on the roster will run you $4.99 a pop or you can purchase the Combo Breaker pack for $19.99 and get the six characters available at launch, two post-launch characters and the original Killer Instinct arcade game. For those KI nuts (like me) that want even more there is the Ultra Edition. This will set you back $34.99 and gives you the six launch characters, two post-launch characters, original KI arcade game, extra costumes and accessory packs.

The individual pricing model is a new direction for a fighter, but really who would buy them for $4.99 when you can get them all for $19.99?

Killer Instinct will release this fall.

  • Retro Achievement List: Killer Instinct

    Previously on Retro Achievement List:

We here at Nerd Rating love achievements and trophies. We are admitted whores for them, but when you think about it, the practice of gamerscores is only seven years old with the introduction of the Xbox 360. We have 30 years of backlogged video games that need to be updated! So that is what we are venturing to do. Our new feature called Retro Achievement List will look back at games of the past and give them a set of achievements to strive for even if they may not seem serious.

We now take on Rare’s combo-based classic fighter Killer Instinct. Let’s hit this game with an ultra combo.

    Achievement Unlocked:

    *Achievement #1

    KI 1

Fight 20 matches with Spinal without making a single boner/penis joke.

    *Achievement #2

    KI 2

When you are about to lose, tell your friend he can do his Ultra Combo on you, then as he starts, begin to fight back.

    *Achievement #3

    KI 3

When fighting against Chief Thunder, throw pieces of wadded up paper at the screen and tell him to do something about it.

    *Achievement #4

    KI 4

After completing a two hour session with TJ Combo, give into the urge to watch Dolemite followed by I’m Gonna Git You Sucka.

    *Achievement #5

    KI 5

Using Sabrewulf in a two-player game, continually sing Hungry Like The Wolf until your opponent gives up or tries to assault you.

    *Achievement #6

    KI 6

Invite someone over that you know has only played Killer Instinct on SNES to play Killer Instinct Gold on your Nintendo 64. You feed off of their jealousy like a douche sponge.

    *Achievement #7

    KI 7

When a friend begins to ask why Tusk can reign down meteors on you ask why he is questioning logic in a game with a pirate skeleton, werewolf and two-headed demon with a spiked wooden dildo.

    *Achievement #8

    KI 8

Refuse to play as Orchid in Killer Instinct 2 because you think they made her look like a crack whore with daddy issues.

    *Achievement #9

    KI 9

Wrapping your 300 lb. naked body in tin foil for a Fulgore costume makes you the ultimate KI fan despite the neighbors insistence you are mentally handicapped.

    *Achievement #10

    KI 10

Realize that 70% of the reason you pre-ordered a $500 Xbox One was for the new Killer Instinct. Cry yourself to sleep.

  • Killer Instinct Is An Xbox One Launch Title, Free To Play*

    misterio-revelado-franquia-historica-da-rare-que-retorna-no-xbox-one-e-killer-instinct-1370932020698_956x500

“Free to play?!” I hear you exclaiming as your hearts get all a flutter with anticipation.

Pull it back a bit and let me explain. Didn’t you notice the asterisk in the title.

Yes, Killer Instinct will be free to play on day one on the Xbox One…with one character. When you download the game you will be given Jago for free to combo people’s asses to your heart’s content. Then if you want any additional characters get ready for microtransactions up the ass. Each character can be bought individually or in packs. Microsoft did not discuss pricing of the characters or if you will be able to just purchase every character in one fail swoop (you know, like buying the actual game).

Now while I do see the benefits of the one character, free-to-play model, something about this just doesn’t sit right with me. Maybe it is just because of Microsoft’s whole message as a whole with the Xbox One and when you hear about KI get microtransactioned to hell…I don’t know. Maybe it is just me.

Damn you, Microsoft. Damn you, all of you. I went into the Microsoft press conference hard pressed that I was going to wait to get an Xbox One and you had to go and throw Killer Instinct in my face.

    RIGHT IN MY FACE!

I have very few weak spots as a gamer in my hard heart, but Killer Instinct is definitely one of them. The 30 second video has KI stalwarts Jago, Glacius and Sabrewulf putting out the combos on each other with ferocity. I got goosebumps when I heard the ever familiar ULLTRAAA COMMMMBOOOO. And as we all know, goosebumps are akin to tears for a nerd.

Killer Instinct releases this fall only on Xbox One.

  • Could Killer Instinct Be Ready For Another Ultra Combo?

It looks as though Killer Instinct is crawling out of the grave that Fox dug for it. Last year, Microsoft was denied the renewal of the license because Fox had a similar named property and didn’t want to share.

Well Fulgore days are here again!!!

Microsoft and Fox have signed what Matlock would call a “Trademark Coexistence Agreement”, which basically means that they have something that is named the same thing, but are cool with each other using the name. See, Fox had a TV show back in 2005 named Killer Instinct and it made no complete sense to fight Microsoft on the use of the name of a show that no one fucking remembers. Oh and the fact that the game came way before the show also.

Now this does not mean that a new Killer Instinct is on the way, but it does free up Microsoft to start one if they want to. I would think the fact that they signed this agreement would be a tell that they have more Jago action planned for the future.
