    star-wars-episode-7-cast

No more rumors or speculation needed. The cast for Star Wars: Episode VII has been made official in a statement by Disney. The announcement also came with a photo of the cast meeting with director JJ Abrams.

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

We already knew Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Peter Mayhew were returning and that Adam Driver had been cast as a villain. The names that people will notice are Andy Serkis and the awesome Max von Sydow as well as Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker returning as C-3P0 and R2-D2.

Oscar Isaac had been rumored over the past few weeks to be in the cast and that was proven true today. John Boyega is best known from Attack the Block and will be joined by About Time’s Domhnall Gleeson and relative unknown Daisy Ridley to fill out the cast.

The additions of Serkis and von Sydow especially make me excited about the next trip to a galaxy far, far away.

Filming is set to begin next month. Star Wars: Episode VII will release on December 18, 2015.

  • Is Adam Driver The Villain In Star Wars: Episode VII?

    2013-tiff-f-word-premiere

The man who would be Nightwing may be headed to space.

Adam Driver (Girls), who was rumored to be up for the role of Dick Grayson in Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman, may have just landed a bigger role. Reports are that he close to a deal that will make him the main antagonist in Star Wars: Episode VII.

With the news on characters and plot being under strict lock and key, there can be only speculation as to who he will play. The easy money is on a Sith Lord with rumors saying the role will be in the vein of Darth Vader.

Let’s hope they don’t build him up as a big bad to have him cut in half in the first movie.

We should hear more definitive casting very soon. Episode VII is to begin filming in April.

  • Gary Oldman In Talks For Star Wars: Episode VII

    ??????????????????????

File this under: Next time you give J.J. Abrams shit, remember he gets some stuff right.

There has been no confirmed casting for Star Wars: Episode VII as of yet but Gary Oldman has officially stated that he has been contacted about being in the next installment.

“They’ve called, yeah. I’m more cynical about it (casting) now, I believe it when I’m on the plane home. You know, the deal isn’t done (until then). But yeah, they’ve inquired.”

If they can get Oldman on board it has to be a huge win for Abrams and Co. for the next trilogy. Who would you like to see Oldman portray in Episode VII? A Jedi Knight? Sith Lord? Zorg? Let us know!

  • John Williams Will Score Star Wars: Episode VII

    vader

At the Star Wars Celebration in Europe, it was announced that John Williams would return to score the music for Star Wars Episode VII. There really was little doubt that the legendary composer would be returning to the galaxy far, far away, but there were very few out there (me) that was holding out a little hope that J.J. Abrams collaborator, Michael Giacchino, would get a shot at bringing something new to the franchise.

Don’t get me wrong, I am glad to have Williams back on board, it just would be nice to get some new blood infused in the franchise. With Disney planning at least four more Star Wars movies, maybe there is plenty of film to go around for other composers.

Williams can’t do all of them…can he?

Here is Williams talking about returning to the franchise:

  • Is This The Script To Star Wars: Episode VII?

Bad Robot tweeted out this picture of a red-paged script with the Bad Robot logo on the front asking if people could guess what is behind the cover. Could this possibly be the finished script for the J.J. Abrams directed Star Wars: Episode VII which is scheduled to start production next January? Our magic 8-ball says “YES” unless it is either a secret sequel to [amazon_link id=”B004EPYZQ2″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Super 8[/amazon_link] or that long lost Felicity movie that we have all been waiting on.

  • Vague Casting Breakdown For Star Wars: Episode VII Leaks

    Star-Wars

J.J. Abrams has gone on record saying that the production of Star Wars: Episode VII would not be a super secret ordeal and this may be the beginning of the truth.

Bleeding Cool has uncovered what they are calling a 100% accurate casting call for the return to the galaxy far, far away. Take a quick look.

-Late-teen female, independent, good sense of humour, fit.

-Young twenty-something male, witty and smart, fit but not traditionally good looking.

-A late twentysomething male, fit, handsome and confident.

-Seventy-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanour. Also doesn’ t need to be particularly fit.

-A second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit.

-Forty something male, fit, military type.

-Thirtysomething male, intellectual. Apparently doesn’t need to be fit.

Now rumors have been heavy that the next film will focus on Han and Leia’s twins, Jacen and Jaina Solo. Does this casting call give you those impressions? Give us your best guesses as to who these possible people could end up being in the comments below!

  • Disney Hopes You’re Ready For A Whole Lot More Star Wars

And by a lot of Star Wars, I mean a metric shit ton of Star Wars.

Disney announced today at CinemaCon that they plan on releasing a Star Wars film every year beginning with Episode VII in 2015. They would alternate years with a movie in the new trilogy and one of the standalone films the next summer.

J.J. Abrams is hard at work with pre-production of Episode VII which we will just call The Phantom Nerfherder for now and screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinburg are rumored to be working on one or more of the stand alone films which are shrouded in even more mystery than Episode VII.

Now I love me some Star Wars, but damn Disney. Every year? No matter how big the property is there is going to be a saturation point and people will stop caring. The prequels did enough damage to the legacy of Star Wars so let’s pull back the reins a bit. Star Wars movies are an event. If we get one every year for at the very least next six years beginning in 2015, people (like me) could get very tired, very quickly.

Honestly I would rather get to play 1313 and get a new trilogy.

  • Joss Whedon Would Use New Characters For Star Wars: Episode VII

One of the best things about [amazon_link id=”B001KVZ6HK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Avengers[/amazon_link] becoming a massive hit last year is that more people than just nerd culture want to know what Joss Whedon thinks about other Hollywood features. And true to form, he does not mind giving his blatantly honest opinion about things.

Take Star Wars for instance. In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Whedon was asked about J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII and what he would do with the universe were he in the director’s chair.

“You know, I wouldn’t go back, I’d go forward.  I would want to create characters that would resonate the way that they did.  I mean not that I don’t want to see the new movies, I would be excited to, but I also feel like I would want to explore a very different part of that universe.”

Whedon also gave his thoughts on the supposed Han Solo standalone film in the works (spoiler: no).

I am of two minds with Episode VII. On one hand it would be a true nerd moment to see Luke, Han and Leia on the big screen again, but the Star Wars universe is a vast place and to have new characters take over and be fleshed out in a new trilogy could bring back some of that old Star Wars magic.

Or they could just cast Olivia Wilde and put her in a slave outfit for 90 minutes and I will be there at midnight throwing my money at the glass.

  • Carrie Fisher Confirms She Is In Star Wars Episode VII

    Leia_1204530c

It looks like Star Wars Episode VII is going to be a full blown reunion. Mark Hamill has already talked about his possible involvement and Latino Review has reported that Harrison Ford is set to return as Han Solo (insert shot first joke here). Now Carrie Fisher is confirming that she will be returning to the galaxy far, far away. She is the first of the three stars to announce this themselves.

Now we just have to keep her off the crazy train for three more years so this movie can get made. That is easier said than done, but where there is a will, there is a high priced Disney employee whose job it will be to follow her around 24-7 to make sure she doesn’t go off on a Wookie sized bender.

And let’s put all of our fanboy expectations into perspective. When Episode VII releases in a few years this is not the Leia of you childhood dreams when you would go hide in a closet.

    Example:

    We won’t be getting this.

    carrie-fisher-shampoo

    We will be getting this.

    carriefisherfinger

    Perspective.
