  • Rumor Control: Bryan Cranston To Play Lex Luthor In 10 Films?!

Is Walter White headed to Metropolis? All signs point to yes with reports being that the Breaking Bad star has signed on to be Lex Luthor, Superman’s main nemesis in 2015’s Man of Steel sequel. If this turns out to be true maybe this will shut some people up about Ben Affleck being cast as Batman, which I still think will pay off.

The part of this that screams rumor is that Cranston has signed on to appear as the villain for 6-10 movies. Add that to the fact that some sites are saying Affleck is signed on for thirteen appearances as Batman and you probably have some truth floating in a sh** river of make believe.

Cranston looks like the clear fan favorite for the part especially with Breaking Bad in the middle of its final season. This would give the Batman/Superman movie a new group of fans that will follow Cranston to the theaters. Also, he was in Affleck’s Argo so there is a connection there between the actors that could have served as a hook to get Cranston involved.

Batman vs. Superman releases on July 17, 2015.

  • Ben Affleck Is Batman. Guess What? It Is Not The End Of The World.

    Ben-Affleck

August 22, 2013, the day the Batman film franchise died.

Or you would think so from the response of the news that Ben Affleck has been cast to take up the cape and cowl in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel, Batman vs. Superman.

I am not here to pile on the Oscar winner. Rather, I am here to say this…I really don’t have a problem with it.

No, Affleck was nowhere on my, or anyone else’s, radar when it came to casting rumors for the first ever movie team-up of the two greatest superheroes in comics history. We all had our favorite choices that we wanted to see play The Dark Knight. I was firmly set in the Jeffrey Dean Morgan camp and even was coming around to the idea of Wes Bentley, who Christopher Nolan was rumored to have been suggesting. So the Affleck pick was certainly out of left field, but let’s be completely honest, if this was Ben Affleck of ten years ago, some of the insane internet hate may have been a tiny bit justified.

    Batman-batman-4488825-1280-800

This is not ten years ago when hating Ben Affleck was the “in” thing to do. Yes, there will always be the Gigli jokes and I will never own Reindeer Games, but this is the multiple time Golden Globe winner and Oscar winner for starring in and directing the Best Picture of 2012. It is easy to see why Warner  jumped all over the opportunity to get him to play Batman. You can not watch The Town or Hollywoodland and tell me that Ben Affleck can not play Batman, a role that has been played by Val fu**ing Kilmer. To not even give him, or the movie, a chance is pure ignorance. I say this from experience.

“They got Heath Ledger to play The Joker. Yeah, the dude from A Knight’s Tale is gonna play the role Nicholson made his. Way to ruin the character. Schumacher would be proud.”

This is an actual quote from me when it was announced in 2006 that Ledger was cast in Nolan’s follow-up to Batman Begins. It would be easy to say I always thought he would make a wonderful Joker, but there is no use in lying. Since hindsight is always 20/20, we all know how asinine that line of thinking was five years and one Oscar for Best Supporting Actor later.

    Batman_vs_Superman_38800

Am I saying that Ben Affleck will automatically make a great, good, or even serviceable Batman? No. Not by a longshot. I am saying that I will reserve right to judge the movie and Affleck’s portrayal of Batman for when I sit my fat ass in a theater seat in July 2015. Just with any performance, there is a chance he could be the worse thing to happen to the Caped Crusader since bat-nips and ice skates, but you also have to realize there is another set of possibilities out there where Affleck surprises a lot of people and brings something new to the role and actually makes the movie better.

I will end this by throwing something out there to Ben Affleck.

I respect the massive set of balls shown for taking this role. You just basically swept the awards season for Argo and have proved your worth in the director’s chair. You went from the joke to the toast of Hollywood. There is no way the internet community will ever give you a free pass, even after winning the biggest award in motion pictures. All you can do is prove them wrong. Don’t fu** it up.

But at the end of the day I know you really could care less what the ravenous masses that hide behind a computer screen say because you have two Oscars, get to play Batman and go home every night to Jennifer Garner.

    Well played Affleck. Well played.

  • Batman: Arkham Origins “Firefly” Trailer

WB Games has released a new trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins at Gamescom featuring the newest assassin, Firefly. Don’t be fooled though, this is not a Firefly-centric trailer. You get plenty of the entire cast of characters like Alfred, Gordon, Black Mask and, of course, The Joker.

With every new trailer I become more and more confident that WB Montreal can match Rocksteady’s first two offerings in scale and depth. That is saying a lot for me who was very pessimistic when the game was first announced earlier this year.

  • Batman: Arkham Origins Collectors’ Edition Announced

Now this is what I am talking about! WB Games has announced the collectors’ edition for Batman: Arkham Origins and it is a beauty. The set will run you $119.99 and come packed full of goodies. Here is the rundown:

-Nine inch statue of The Joker with full LED effects

    -80 page art book

-Two pieces of GCPD evidence in crime lab wrapping

    -Wanted poster for Batman

-Glow in the dark map of Gotham City

    -Wayne family photo

-Intel dossiers on all eight assassins

    -Batwing schematic

    -Anarchy logo stencil

-First appearance Batman skin from Detective Comics #27

    -Deathstroke Challenge Pack

    -Necessary Evil documentary

    -Knightfall DLC pack (PS3 only)

That is quite a haul for a collectors’ edition. Having purchased both previous sets for Arkham Asylum and Arkham City I can easily say this is the best of the three and that statue is worth the price of admission for me.

How about you? Is there enough here to warrant a $120 purchase?

  • Rumor Control: Will Walter White Become Lex Luthor?

    images (1)

Two candidates have emerged among the wreckage that is known as internet rumors to be frontrunners for the role of Lex Luthor in Batman vs. Superman (or whatever they title it) in 2015. Let’s also remind everyone that the villain is not even known to be in the movie at all at this point, but if we didn’t talk about stuff like this what would we do with our days? Work?

First up is Bryan Cranston, who, for the life of me, always seems to be up for key villain roles and is regarded as one of the finest actors working today. I mean, he was good and all on Malcolm in the Middle, but really guys.

The meth king’s name has been thrown out there by Latino Review’s El Mayimbe, who is pretty steady with his insider information. I have no doubt that Cranston would go over well with fans as well as get fans of Breaking Bad interested in the 2015 superhero team-up film. Hell, I even liked him in the Total Recall reboot and they barely used him.

Second among the big, bald wonders is Mark Strong who gave a very cryptic answer when asked if he was in the running for Lex Luthor. He simply said:

“All I can say is… watch this space.”

Now I do not know if he was pointing to his crotch at this point during the interview so I am just going to put it in the “weird Hollywood answer” section. I am going to refuse the need/want to say he would be a “strong” choice to play Superman’s main nemesis. He was one of the few bright spots in Green Lantern and his performance in AMC’s upcoming Low Winter Sun looks like it will be amazing.

At least these are more believable than the Bradley Cooper rumors when Man of Steel was filming.

  • Rumor Control: Could Jeffrey Dean Morgan Be Up For Batman?

    jeffrey_dean_morgan_attends_watchmen_panel_comic_con_17

Let’s file this under ‘Please God, let this be true”.

With the news of Warner searching for an older Batman and a possible short list being bandied about, there is plenty to get excited about when it comes to the Man of Steel sequel coming in 2015. Now we will add a new variant to this equation.

New rumors around the wonderful world of the interwebs are saying that Jeffrey Dean Morgan has actually had a meeting with Zack Snyder about possibly donning the cape and cowl opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman. Nerds will recognize Morgan as John Winchester from Supernatural and the ladies will remember him as the ghost that banged Katherine Heigl on Grey’s Anatomy and my girlfriend knows him as my “man crush” that is known, but never talked about.

The rumor is not that far-fetched with Morgan already playing The Comedian (rather expertly) in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen in 2009.

What are you all thinking about this possibility? Have any of you already set your mind on who you want to see take over the role?

  • Warner Bros. Batman Short List Includes Brolin And Gosling?

With Batman/Superman only two years away and David S. Goyer and Zack Snyder hard at work on the script, Warner Bros. is in full on search mode for the next Batman. With the news last week that they were looking for an actor in their 40’s to play the Dark Knight guesses have been coming in fast and furious. Now it appears there is a short list flying around of the possible actors Warner is looking to take on Henry Cavill’s Superman.

Here what’s we got so far according to rumors: Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, True Blood’s Joe Manganiello, The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage, Watchmen’s Matthew Goode and Pacific Rim’s Max Martini.

OK, first off my #1 pick is not on this list and that is Karl Urban, but this doesn’t surprise me since Urban is filming his new TV show Almost Human. Oh well…one can dream.

Josh Brolin is certainly a good choice. He has the look and acting chops down to pull off the role, but at 46 he is on the upper end of the age range and this Batman is going to have to carry over into the Justice League movie. Joe Manganiello is built to be an exact comic book replica of Batman and Richard Armitage probably has my vote out of this entire list of actors.

From this rumored list here are my order of choices:

    1. Richard Armitage

    2. Josh Brolin

    3. Joe Manganiello

    4. Matthew Goode

    5. Max Martini

I left Ryan Gosling off the list because here are my thoughts on the possible casting of him as Batman:

  • Rumor Control: WB Looking To Cast “Older” Batman For Batman/Superman

Alright here is a new rumor that you should know about when placing your bets on who will get the coveted role of The Caped Crusader in 2015’s Batman/Superman movie. Batman On Film is reporting from multiple sources that Warner Bros. is actively looking for an older “more grizzled” Batman for the Zack Snyder-directed feature set for release in 2015. The age range has been narrowed to actors who are almost or already in their 40’s.

To me this is a bit of good news because it is guaranteed that we will not get any form of Batman origin story again for this movie. It looks like we will be getting a Batman that is already on the job and good at what he does. This makes the dynamic between the two characters much better than two rookie heroes figuring things out as they go. At least one of them will be a veteran who can lead by example.

Let us know who you think would make a great Batman (no matter the age) and we will include it in our fantasy casting article that is coming soon.

And yes, I know Jon Hamm is going to be the overwhelming favorite. I am in the minority on this. I used to be all for it, but over the past year or so I have found other actors I would rather see in the role.

    Who you got?

  • Batman: Arkham Origins Reveals Multiplayer Mode

Batman: Arkham Origins is being developed by WB Montreal this go round and so far the game is looking like it will live up to the Arkham name. Now WB Games has announced that Arkham Origins will feature a multiplayer mode with a new twist.

    3 vs. 3 vs. 2

One team will be headed up by The Joker while the other will be led by the massive Bane as they fight to control Gotham. The two in this equation are, of course, Batman and Nightwing who will try and take down both teams. Each team will have the latest in high tech equipment and weaponry to even the stakes against each other and The Dark Knight and his partner. They will have their own version of “Detective Mode” called “Enhanced Vision” which can only be used in thirty second intervals. Each team will also have the use of special attacks like Joker gift boxes which can be left as proximity mines.

Batman and Nightwing will have their usual set of goodies to use, but will need to be more cagey in their actions since their opponents are wielding guns and other high end weapons.

This sounds like it will be loads of fun and will definitely add a lot of hours to what I hope will be the next great game in this series. What do you think about the newly announced multiplayer mode? Is it something you are looking forward to?
