  • New Game Releases. Week Of September 30, 2012.

Skeleton Bunnies, Zombies and LeBron. Oh My.

    Resident Evil 6 (360, PS3) $59.99

Resident Evil 4 is one of my favorite games of all time then Resident Evil 5 came along and completely turned me off of the series. Now the sixth installment is here and I can tell you from playing the demo that a lot of things have been fixed. Three separating storylines taking place across the globe is quite ambitious for the franchise but it just may pay off.

    NBA 2K13 (360, PS3, PC, Wii, PSP) $29.99-59.99

It has been a long wait for a basketball game for this fan. The 2K series has never been my cup of beer even with glittering reviews every year. Now EA has cancelled NBA Live…..again and I may be left without a b-ball game again this year. But this year’s 2K has changed the control scheme to give a more arcade feel with the use of the right dribble stick so here’s hoping I will finally get to play this year.

Hell Yeah: Wrath of the Dead Rabbit (PC, PSN, XBLA) $14.99

Reviews for this game have been all over the place from ” a wonderful side-scroller” to “stay the hell away”. Both sides seem to agree that is has a great look and art style so it is really a toss up if you want to give this game about a skeletal bunny’s revenge a try.

Next week is a big one with the releases of Dishonored, the return of XCOM and the Kinect only Fable: The Journey.

  • New Game Releases. Week of September 23, 2012.

Warcraft Goes Panda, FIFA And Dead Or Alive Both Involve Bouncing Round Things.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria (PC) $39.99-Normal/ $79.99- Collector’s Edition

If you are still playing World of Warcraft after all these years I applaud you. That and weep for your bank account. But Blizzard knows how to keep the expansions coming and this week sees the release of Mists of Pandaria. Level up your character to 90 and play as a new class (Monk) as you uncover the mysteries of the land of Pandaria. And The Pandarans are neutral if memory serves me. So they are like Swiss pandas?

    Dead or Alive 5 (360, PS3) $59.99

Tecmo’s fighting series has been to the beach for volleyball and the wrestling ring and I guess now it’s time to get back to the fighting. Well, that and watching the jiggling boobs. Let’s face it, the DOA series is known more for their jiggle technology than their fighting engine but plenty of people keep buying it to keep the series going.

FIFA 13 (every system imaginable, maybe even the Virtual Boy) $29.99-$59.99

Like with NHL 13 you already know if you are buying this or not. You do not need convincing with all the new bells and whistles in this year’s game. Although let’s not forget that their is Kinect and Move support this year so you can give that a try before realizing how bad it probably is. If you curse at the game on 360 you might get carded by the ref? If every game did that I would get past the intros.

Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse (360, PS3, PC) $59.99

Take control of Stewie and Brian as you make your way back through multiple universes to stop Stewie’s evil brother Bertram. The Family Guy writers have had a hand in writing this but for me the Family Guy train passed five years ago and if I am going to play a video game based on a long running cartoon I will wait for South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Bad Piggies (iPhone, Android, Windows Phone)

Rovio is looking to keep their cash cow (or pig) rolling with the release of Bad Piggies. Where Angry Birds focused on destroying structures to get back at the pigs for kidnapping their eggs this game focuses on the pigs building things to help them get through the level. Seeing as Angry birds has been downloaded over 1 billion times I think it is pretty safe to say that Rovio’s pockets will be flush with cash for the forseeable future.

Next week brings back the evil Umbrella Corporation and hopefully a better game than Resident Evil 5.

    Happy gaming!!!

  • New Game Releases. Week Of September 16, 2012

All Hail The Beginning Of Holiday Gaming!!

    Borderlands 2 (360, PS3) $59.99-normal/ $99.99- deluxe/ good luck finding a loot chest

Gearbox’s followup to their 2009 game (which is free to all PS Plus subscribers this month), Borderlands 2 ups the ante on almost every single facet of the original. More character classes, a deeper story, 87 bazillion guns (no really, that’s how many Gearbox is toungue in cheek saying), online four player co-op and two player split screen which, if you played the first game, is the BEST way to play. A season pass for all DLC is also avaliable for 2400 MS Points or $29.99 on PSN. Ummm go now and get it.

Little Big Planet Vita (PS Vita) $39.99

Wait? Wasn’t this game not supposed to be released until September 25th? You are correct but Sony gave the go ahead this past Saturday to begin selling the game early. And yes I have a copy in my Vita right now and a review will be coming soon. I can say that from what I have played that if you love LBP and do not own a Vita this is a system seller. Tarsier has taken over for Media Molecule and have integrated all the Vita features well.  Now Sackboy can fit in your pocket and go anywhere. Phrasing, I know.

Torchlight 2 (PC Digital Download) $20

All the dungeon crawling and looting of Diablo III at a third of the price. Add in multiplayer co-op and the ability to still mod this game to your hearts content and you are looking at an easy buy for dungeon looters.

Jet Grind Radio (XBLA, PSN)  800 MS Points/$9.99 PSN

After you are done blowing off cel-shaded heads in Borderlands 2 go ahead and download the HD re-release of the Dreamcast classic rollerblading game. Not as many guns as Borderlands but you will have a great time blading away from cops and tagging your turf with graffiti. Oh Dreamcast, the one system Sega did right and it died a premature death.

    Happy gaming!!!

  • New Game Releases. Week Of September 9, 2012

The Long Summer Is Almost Over. Winter Is Coming.

Heihachi returns, Kirby turns 20 and the frozen sport reports for duty.

    Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (PS3, 360) $59.99

The first Tekken Tag Tournament was released back in 1999 so it has been a good long wait for the Tekken fans who like their Tekken with a little Marvel vs. Capcom thrown in. Play as over 40 fighters of the Iron Fist Tournament in 2-on-2 tag matches and try to forget about the horrible, horrible movie that was made about the franchise.

    Kirby’s Dream Collection (Wii) $39.99

Nintendo’s little puffball is turning the big 20 this year and to celebrate Wii owners get this collection of six classic Kirby titles including: Kirby’s Dream Land 1&2 from the original Game Boy, Kirby’s Adventure on the NES, Kirby’s Super Star and Kirby’s Dream Land 3 on the SNES and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards from the Nintendo 64. Completing the collection is a soundtrack CD and an artbook. Happy Birthday Kirby.

    NHL 13 (PS3, 360) $59.99

It’s almost hockey time again. You know right off the bat if you are going to buy this year’s version or not and that you know that the physics engine has been reworked and that you can switch to back skating with just a button press or the new chop option to take a shot at the man with the puck to try and gain possession. Good times, eh?

Double Dragon Neon (PSN, XBLA) $10

That’s right, Billy and Jimmy Lee are back!! Developer WayForward is bringing back the fighting brothers once again in a classic 2-D beat em up to save Billy’s girlfriend while Jimmy risks his life for absolutely no nookie at all. Punch, kick, grapple and throw around hundreds of gang members while buying songs that unlock new abilities that can be combined into a mixtape of special moves.

    Happy gaming!!!

  • Third Hobbit Film Gets A Release Date; Middle Film Now Named The Desolation Of Smaug

The third Hobbit title will release on July 18, 2014 completing the recently expanded version of the Tolkien classic. The title will be The Hobbit: There and Back Again. Sound familiar? Yeah, they reshuffled since we are getting three flicks now. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will open December 14, 2012, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on December 13, 2013 and The Hobbit: There and Back Again finishes out the trilogy on July 18, 2014.

  • New Game Releases. Week Of August 26, 2012.

    Madden NFL 13 (PS3, 360, Vita, Wii) $59.99-PS3, Xbox/ $49.99- Wii/ $39.99- Vita

It’s Madden. Really, by now you know if you are going to get this or not. Reviews have been better than the past few years but this will mark the eighth year where I will say “There’s no way it can be be better than NFL 2K5 right?”

    Guild Wars 2 (PC) $59.99

With almost every MMO going to a free to play model now or in the near future, it appears that the first Guild Wars was way ahead of the curve and has begun a trend. Guild Wars 2 looks to continue the success of it’s predecessor with a story that is set 250 years after the events of Guild Wars.

Rock Band Blitz (Xbox LIVE, PSN) $15

Music games may be dead (or hibernating…who knows) but Harmonix is not going to let Rock Band fall by the wayside. Reaching back to their roots Rock Band Blitz lets players play through 25 songs on their controllers with a rhythm game that harkens back to their earlier releases, Amplitude and Frequency. Songs include offerings from: Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold, Queen, Barenaked Ladies and more. The 25 song setlist can also be transferred to your Rock Band 3 playlist for no extra cost as well.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD (PSN) $15

Released a few weeks ago on Xbox, now PS3 owners can share in the retro goodness of the first two Tony Hawk games. Check out my review here

Ratchet and Clank Trilogy (PS3) $29.99

It has already been ten years since the first Ratchet and Clank blasted it’s way onto the PS2 with it’s colorful style, amazing platforming and insane weapon inventory. Now to celebrate Insomniac is releasing the first three games in one collection. Ratchet and Clank, Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal get an HD upgrade with only a 30 dollar price tag. This easily wins bargain of the week. If you have not played one of all of these do yourself a favor and get on it!
