  • New Trailer For The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug Gives Me The Feels

Now we are getting to the good stuff. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’s new trailer is here and if you were hoping the second film would stick closer to the book then you are going to be disappointed, but for fans who have not read the book (really, it has been out 76 years, come on) and fans (like me) that don’t mind creative liberties this looks like a whole lot of fun.

We get a few highlights including Legolas back in action and a love affair story with Evangeline Lilly’s Tauriel, Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman and the big daddy at then end is hearing Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug, which he absolutely owns.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug releases on December 13th.

  • Holy Schnikes! Killzone: Shadow Fall Will Be A 50GB Install

    killzone-shadow-fall-2

For those of you that like to download your games digitally to your console, the next generation will certainly see more of games like Killzone: Shadow Fall, but right now, this is a different thing. The upcoming shooter developed by Guerilla will be an almost 50GB install when the game releases alongside the [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVQO” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Playstation 4[/amazon_link] on November 15th.

I guess it is a good thing you can play as you download on the Playstation 4 because that might be quite a wait for 50 GB. Fergal Gara, from Sony UK, used this announcement to push Sony’s new download ability.

“The Play as you Download functionality, for example, means you don’t need the whole file before you go. This is a little bit counterbalanced by the fact the files themselves are getting bloody big. Killzone: Shadow Fall is an uber file – I think it’s cracking on for 50 GB. It looks it, too, when you see it.”

Call me old fashioned, but I am sticking with discs until someone tells me that I can not buy them anymore and have to use a digital service.

  • Destiny Box Art. It Is Art…On A Box

Activision and Bungie have released the box art for their highly anticipated game Destiny. There is nothing really bad about it, though I think I would have liked the simpler picture they have been using for posters and ads with the planet sitting against a starry backdrop.

    I want this one.

Destiny is Bungie’s first independent game since breaking away from Microsoft and the Halo franchise. It is expected to release in 2014.

  • Steam Controller Unveiled. Valve Takes On Virtual Boy For Worst Controller Design Ever

    2controller

It has been a big week for Valve. They teased three big announcements for this week and have so far delivered Steam OS and that the mysterious Steam Box would be coming next year as they try to revolutionize the relationship of PC and living room TV gaming. I have not focused on these announcements because…well I am not a PC gamer and probably will never be. Just being honest.

But this is something different. Because..well…look at it!

It is the official Steam controller which features two circle trackpads as opposed to analog sticks. Valve says that they will offer unparalleled control and as Valve stated will make, “whole genres of games that were previously only playable with a keyboard and mouse” easier to play on a TV. ” The trackpads can be used as buttons also and will also have a feedback system.

There is a touchpad in the middle of the controller which can be used in many different ways including scrolling through pages of information and also can be a clickable button.

I do not play mobile games on my phone for a reason. I do not like touchscreen control pads. Now I know this is not the exact same thing, but I have to have tactile contact. I want to feel an analog stick moving in the direction I want it to. Those trackpads may be amazing, who knows. I will never get used to gaming like that though.

OK, those are the basics. I know there are some long-winded explanations of every function this controller carries, but I have to get on with the simple fact that this thing is plain, fu**ing ugly. There will some Valve lovers that will jump down my throat because everything Valve does is a revolution or whatever, but come on. Be realistic. This thing is Virtual Boy ugly.

It is like looking at a Steam controller in reverse.

Of course, there is still the Gamecube controller out there with its hanging blue balls.

And one can never forget the Jaguar controller. I know my hands never will. Long nights of Aliens vs. Predator and hands cramps…the hand cramps. Never forget.

Do you remember when Resident Evil was good? You know, besides the whole “master of unlocking” thing. The dog jumping through the window, the first time Nemesis chased you. Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami wants to take you back to that with The Evil Within. This new video shows just how dark and disturbing the environment will be including a chainsaw wielding crazy and blood by the gallons.

The Evil Within releases in 2014.

  • The Last Of Us Multiplayer Maps Coming In October, Single Player DLC May Be 2014

The Last of Us has been out for a few months and people that bought the $20 Season Pass have yet to see one part of the three promised DLC packs, until now. October 15th will see the release of The Abandoned Territories Map Pack with four new maps including: Suburbs, Bus Depot, Hometown and Bookstore.

Naughty Dog has not forgotten about the single player DLC that was announced as part of the Season Pass. The good news is that they are hard at work on it, the bad news is that it will not be ready until December or possibly early 2014. The main reason I bought the Season Pass was for this and while the wait may be long, I have faith that Naughty Dog will make it worth it.

The third piece of the Season Pass will another multiplayer pack and will not be available until the first half of next year.

  • John Watson Moves To North Dakota, Joins Cast Of Fargo

    martin-freeman-filming-in-london-34703_w1000

Sherlock and The Hobbit star Martin Freeman is coming to American TV. He has joined the cast of FX’s Fargo as lead character Lester Nygaard. His character will be put through the ringer by Lorne Malvo, played by Billy Bob Thorton.

The show will be based on the Coen Brothers 1996 film. It will premiere next spring on FX. For anyone that has not seen Martin Freeman in BBC’s insanely good Sherlock, you are in for a treat. You can’t ask for a better lead then add in Thorton and the show already has high expectations from me.

    Dontcha know? Oh yah.
