20 years ago on a random Friday night in September, a thirteen year old boy sat down to watch two new shows that would become some of the most memorable TV viewing of his life. One only lasted for one season (The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.) and the other would go on to run for nine seasons and 202 episodes reigniting the world’s obsession with aliens and the unknown.
20 years later The X-Files still stands up to most shows on the air today and to celebrate the anniversary there will a special panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. On Thursday, July 18th creator Chris Carter and Gillian Anderson will be joined by writers and producers David Amann, Vince Gilligan, Howard Gordon, Darin Morgan, Glen Morgan, John Shiban and Jim Wong to discuss the series and its place in sci-fi and TV history.
David Duchovny is not scheduled to appear…yet.
*UPDATE*
David Duchovny has confirmed that he WILL BE at the Comic-Con panel. So now it is a true reunion.
Vin Diesel, who is riding high off the success of Fast & Furious 6, surprised a lot with a message on his Facebook page yesterday which shows the star may be headed towards something even bigger than his Fast series.
“Marvel has requested a meeting … no idea what for … haha, you probably know better than me … “
Let the speculation begin!
Of course, the obvious thing that will be mentioned first is the role of Thanos that has yet to be cast for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but honestly there are so many Marvel movies in the pipeline that there are a dozen roles that could be discussed. Also, this could not be a meeting about a specific role, but seeing if Diesel would want to get involved with the Marvel Universe at some point. Only time will tell.
What do you think about this development? Is there any role you would like to see Diesel take on for Marvel or should he stick to fast cars and Riddick?
Feast your eyes upon the greatest cover ever conceived or produced for the iPad. Yes, this is an actual cover made to look like the Grays Sports Almanac from Back to the Future Part II.
The only way this could possibly be better is if you randomly happen upon Thomas F. Wilson (who portrayed Biff Tannen) and get him to autograph it, thus creating some kind of anomaly in the space time continuum, where your favorite movie as a child becomes a reality if only for the tiniest of nanoseconds.
The case is $30 and can be purchased on Firebox.com.
Maybe you were not excited at the news of a sequel to Independence Day a few days ago, but that is all about to change. Not only is Bill Pullman returning we also will get an actual Jeff Goldblum sighting in 2015. This is a rare thing. It is like seeing a rainbow colored unicorn pissing chocolate into a giant bowl of ice cream. I mean how many times do you see something like that in your life? Once, maybe twice considering how many times you ride the white pony?
Frankly I say it is a good thing Will Smith is off doing horrible Shaymalan movies because that just means more screen time for The Goldblum. Independence Day 2 just got good. Real good.
To celebrate next week’s July 4th holiday and the fact that we will get the ass end of an alien attack in 2015, have a quick laugh at the Honest Trailer for Independence Day.
Max Landis, son of Hollywood legend John Landis and screenwriter of [amazon_link id=”B005LAIGPU” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Chronicle[/amazon_link], loves Superman. This is no secret. Last year his YouTube video, The Death and Return of Superman, became an internet sensation garnering over 2 million views. It is funny as hell.
Now he is back giving his thoughts on this year’s blockbuster, Man of Steel, which he is (obviously) very opinionated about. I personally loved Man of Steel and yet still find Landis makes many valid points. It eventually becomes an indictment on superhero movies in general and will surely get some folks riled up.
I like Max Landis. I loved his Death and Return of Superman video and enjoyed the hell out of Chronicle. We didn’t enjoy Man of Steel the same way. Guess what? That is OK. Everyone has opinions and 98.3% of the time they will not be changed by bitching or arguing.
How many times can Metal Gear Solid be re-released? Creator Hideo Kojima is hoping for at least one more (not including [amazon_link id=”B00CTKHXFO” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection[/amazon_link]).
The master of 45 minutes cutscenes and stealthy horse riding confirmed that he is wanting to find a team that can tackle a remake of the 1998 PS One classic using his new Fox Engine seen in Metal Gear Solid V.
This excites me greatly. Sure we have had many re-releases of MGS, including the awesome Gamecube exclusive [amazon_link id=”B0000A09EN” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes[/amazon_link], but if I can get the original assault on Shadow Moses looking as good as MGS V then I am fully behind Kojima on this one.
For those of you that want to relive the intense heartache that was the third season of Game of Thrones, you will get your chance to next year. HBO has announced that Season 3 will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on February 18, 2014, just over a month before the premiere of Season 4.
To keep you invested while you wait HBO is letting you vote on what exclusive packaging will accompany the set at Best Buy’s nationwide. There are three different sets to choose from including three character covers and two different sets of house sigils. All you have to do is go and like the HBO Facebook page and like which set you want to occupy your shelf space.
Of the three I prefer the character profiles, but if I had my druthers, I would go a different route.
Look below to see, but be warned!

Do Not Scroll If You Have Not Finished Season 3!!!
Last Warning!
I would like a hologram cover where you turn it from side to side and this happens:
You know what? I like the name of this post. Puns be damned.
Guess who’s back for more gravely voiced, neck snapping fun?! Why it’s Liam Neeson who will reprise the role of Bryan Mills for a third Taken movie. His payday? A very hefty $20 million which puts him in the big daddy group of top earners in Hollywood.
This is almost a no-brainer for EuropaCorp when you consider that Taken 2 made over $375 million worldwide off of a $45 million budget. Now the only thing to decide is who gets to be on Neeson’s bad side in the trilogy capper? I would like to suggest some little known about group of Inuit tribesman mafia in Alaska that does human trafficking through an intricate set of ice tunnels beneath the Earth.
If you were watching RAW last night then you probably caught the unveiling of the WWE 2K14 cover which features The Rock (as you can see above). Now take a look at the first trailer for the newly minted 2K Sports title. I hope they can keep the momentum going from last year’s game which we gave a stellar review.
Also, as we reported yesterday, if The Rock is not your favorite choice for cover boy then 2K is giving you a chance to design your own cover and have it be picked as the alternate.
