Weekend Box Office- March 21-23, 2014

First-jumper-divergent

After plenty of attempts to find the new young adult movie franchise like Twilight and The Hunger Games, we finally have a winner (money wise).

Divergent did not match the original Twilight’s take of $69 million, but its $56 million is impressive and ensures that the book series will continue in theaters.

This left Muppets Most Wanted wanting with only $16.5 million leaving Kermit and company’s fate for future installments in question.

Next week sees the release of Darren Aronofsky’s Noah and then Captain America: The Winter Soldier in two weeks. It is getting harder to tell when the summer movie season begins.

1. Divergent- $56.0 million/ $56.0 million

2. Muppets Most Wanted- $16.5/ $16.5

3. Mr. Peabody & Sherman- $11.7/ $81.0

4. 300: Rise of an Empire- $8.6/ $93.7

5. God’s Not Dead- $8.5/ $8.5
