  • Tomb Raider Collector’s Edition Announced

Have A Look At Lara’s Goodies.

Today Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics announced their collector’s edition for next year’s highly anticipated reboot of Tomb Raider. It will retail for $99.99 and release on March 5th. Square has said that quantities will be limited thus the “collector’s” stamp (hmmm….not so sure).

The collection will include the following:

    – 8″ Play Arts Kai Lara Croft figure (hopefully it will not look like a** like their Mass Effect Commander Shepard)

    – Three iron-on patches that represent three of the achievements in the game

    – A 5″x7″ lithograph of Lara Croft

    – A 15″x19″ map of Yamati Island, the island on which Lara is shipwrecked

    – “Weapons Pack” DLC which gives Lara extra weapons for in-game use

    – A 10 track CD soundtrack from the game

What say all of you? Is this worth the bump up in price to $100?

  • Adam Sessler Joins Revision3

    Guess Who’s Back? Back Again.

Has it really only been seven months since Adam Sessler left G4? I guess when you get used to seeing someone so often time moves slower.

Fear not video game fans “The Sess” is back. It was announced today that the former G4/Tech TV editor-in-chief and host of X-Play will be making his return with Revision3. He will be the new editor-in-chief and executive producer of game content for the website.

Sessler left G4 back in April which now looks like a genius move with G4 now basically being a defunct network come January.

In a blog post this morning Sessler in part had this to say:

“While we may not know exactly what may come as of yet. I can assure you that it will be honest, it will continue my interest in raising the discourse of videogames beyond the false contests of reviews and the fetishization of minutiae, and it will involve you, the community, because you are playing the games along with us.”

Take a look at the first video Adam has posted today about his new position and be sure to go to Revision3.com/games to help support his new venture.

    Welcome back Adam.

  • Casey Hudson Announces New Mass Effect Game Is In The Works

Producer Wants Your Input For The Future Of The Series.

Most fans knew a new entry in the Mass Effect saga would be coming eventually but now we have definitive word from the main man behind the best-selling franchise.

Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series, sent out this tweet yesterday morning to the delight of fans.

Bioware has already said that anything in the future for Mass Effect would not involve Commander Shepard but this is the first concrete evidence that the team is in fact at work on another game.

It seems they are still taking all of the fan outcry from Mass Effect 3’s ending (which I had no problem with) into account with Hudson asking fans to give their suggestions for what they would like to see in the next game.

  • Grand Theft Auto 5 Protagonist(s) Revealed (UPDATED)

Game Informer Cover Unveils GTA’s “Heroes”

The new issue of Game Informer should be making its way into people’s emails or mailboxes soon and the cover story reveals a big story element from Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5. It appears the games will feature three central characters instead of one. Whether their stories will be separate or cross over has yet to be announced. What we do know is that the game will take place in the city of Los Santos and will involve shooting, driving, buying clothes and unnecessary chase missions.

This picture has also been making the rounds online today. Take a look and let us know what you think about this theory.

    !!!UPDATED!!!

More information from the new Game Informer has confirmed that the three characters are named Michael, Franklin and Trevor quickly squashing the rumor above (although I rather liked the rumor). You will play all three characters being able to switch between them to complete missions in different ways.

I am not sure how to take this news. It certainly is ambitious of Rockstar to try something like this and hopefully it won’t turn into a Resident Evil 5 experience (i.e. sucks).

A new trailer will be released soon. Grand Theft Auto 5 is slated for a Spring 2013 release.

  • Madden NFL 13 For Wii U Shows Off Its Features

Madden NFL 13 is coming to the Wii U at launch and it will bring with it a new set of controls that will use the Wii U’s gamepad to call your plays, perform audibles, draw out your own hot routes on the fly and more. Because this game did not have a full development cycle Wii U owners will not get to have the new physics engine that debuted this year in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game. One would think that it will be implemented in next year’s version.

Madden NFL 13 releases on November 18th.

  • Gears of War: Judgment Pre-Orders Begin Today. Weapon Bonus Announced.

Gears of War: Judgment doesn’t release until next March but you can go and pre-order the game starting today and for doing so will get a special weapon for laying down your $5 early. Gamers who reserve the new title will receive a Classic Hammerburst rifle for use in multiplayer.

It was also announced that more pre-order bonuses would be announced as the game draws closer to its release date.

  • Watch 9 Minutes Of New Super Mario Bros. U Gameplay

How Will The Wii U Gamepad Affect Mario’s Future?

Here is video from Nintendo’s direct conference showcasing how [amazon_link id=”B002I0K3CK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]New Super Mario Bros. U[/amazon_link] will look and play when it is released on November 18th alongside the Wii U.

If you love Mario gameplay and excited Japanese talking then this is the video for you. It gives you a small sample of all the new modes you will find including the speed runs, multiplayer coin battles, new suits and how the gamepad will be utilized for co-op gameplay. Using the gamepad as a seconday controller for someone to create platforms while another player goes through the level is another way Nintendo is keeping the Mario franchise and the Wii brand an easy way for family and friends to get in on the action together.

  • Satoru Iwata Unboxing A Wii U Is Oddly Fascinating

Seriously, Try And Not Be Entertained

Odds are over the next few weeks you are going to see many Wii U unboxing videos but let’s face it you won’t find one with the unbridled weirdness of watching Nintendo president Satoru Iwata unpack his company’s own console complete with gladiator music at the beginning that makes you think Spatacus is about come out and disembowel Iwata.

Wii U launches on November 18th and comes in two sets. Standard is $299.99 and the deluxe set (shown in the video) will retail for $349.99

Lastly, what is the over under on how many times you rewind the video to hear Iwata say “it’s a bit stiff” in Japanese? I am going +3.

  • Assassin’s Creed 3 Sells Over 3 Million Copies In First Week

People Sure Do Love George Washington

Ubisoft has just reported their first half numbers for the 2012-13 fiscal year and have announced that Assassin’s Creed 3 is estimated to have sold more than 3.5 million copies in its first week in release.

I think we were all expecting Assassin’s Creed 3 to pop a big number but that is a huge amount of games. It is over double the sales from last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. It seems the swap from Italy to the American Revolution is just what this series needed.

Ubisoft still has a strong lineup for the rest of the year as well with Far Cry 3, Just Dance 4 and seven titles releasing on Nintendo’s Wii U. It is basically the exact opposite of the THQ article I posted this morning.

  • South Park: The Stick Of Truth, Others Delayed By THQ

Company Shifts Release Dates On Three Titles

During the THQ earnings report yesterday it was reported by new THQ president Jason Rubin that three of the company’s biggest titles would see their release dates pushed back.

South Park: The Stick of Truth has been moved from its March 5, 2013 spot to early fiscal 2014 which means that it will be released sometime after April 1, 2013. Metro: Last Light and Company of Heroes 2 will see a two month delay with both releasing in March 2013.

Rubin said the titles were not expected to meet their release dates without the overall product suffering. With all of THQ’s woes over the past year it looks as though they are positioning these games more strategically to keep the company afloat. South Park is a big license game and moving it to April or beyond will help the company’s earning next year, providing the game sells well of course.

It has been sad to watch THQ’s decline over the past year. Hopefully games like South Park and the just released WWE 13 can help stabilize the company for a bit.
