  • Ubisoft Montreal CEO Thinks Gamers Are Ready For “Always-Online”

Here are the details first then I will let you know what this most likely means.

Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat gave an interview with The Guardian and was asked if the gaming community was ready for a console that is always connected to the internet.

“Well, that’s a question you should put to Microsoft and Sony! I would say that a lot of people are already always online through other devices – I would suspect that the audience is ready.”

Now Mallat could just be playing it safe and saying that we would have to ask either Microsoft or Sony, but I am assuming as the head of a major game development studio that he may actually already know if the next Xbox will be always-online or not. Sony has already announced that the PS4 will not require it and there is too much smoke around Microsoft’s camp to not say there is fire somewhere. I am not saying Microsoft will do it, but I am thinking there has been more than serious discussions about it and who knows, maybe their delay in announcing the new Xbox could be a rethinking of strategy after the negative reception to the possibility.

  • Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon To Release On May 1 And That’s Not Even The Best Part

    screenlg6ueauw-noscale

How can having a release date (and therefore proving this thing is real) not be the best part of this announcement? Because now Michael Biehn is confirmed to be in the game and hopefully wipe away any memory I have left of the giant shit that Gearbox took on my chest in Aliens: Colonial Marines. I am just considering this DLC, which does not require a copy of Far Cry 3 to play, as an apology for my 60 bucks that was stolen from me.

Thank you, Ubisoft. Bet you never thought you would see me type that, but the thought of Aliens does weird things to me. Check out the official synopsis below.

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is THE Kick-Ass Cyber Shooter taking place on a bizarre open-world island crawling with evil. Welcome to an 80’s VHS vision of the future. The year is 2007 and you are Sargent Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando who’s fighting against a cyborg army gone rogue. Your mission: get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the world. Experience every cliché of a VHS era vision of a nuclear future, where cyborgs, blood dragons, mutants, and Michael Biehn (TerminatorAliensNavy Seals) collide. Playing Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon doesn’t require a copy of Far Cry 3.

  • New Watch Dogs Trailer Is Not So New, But Still Fun To Watch

A new trailer for Ubisoft’s [amazon_link id=”B00BGHUS58″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Watch Dogs[/amazon_link] has gone up today. Well I say new in a very loose way. It is the trailer we saw at the PS4 event back in February only it has been dubbed over with a woman giving narration about all of the illegal activities that protagonist Aiden Pearce partakes in including; hacking people’s bank accounts to get cash from an ATM and use the city’s security system to evade police.

Oh and he also beats the shit out of an abusive ex who tries to assault a woman. Good times.

    Watch Dogs releases this fall.

  • Assassin’s Creed IV Makes Collector’s Editions Overly Difficult. New Gameplay Trailer Released.

    AC4BF_COLL_C_mockup_UK

This is going to be exhausting and some of you already know how exhausting I already consider Assassin’s Creed.

Not content with one special edition worldwide or anything like that, Ubisoft has announced five special collector’s editions. Three will be available overseas in the UK and Ireland so if you live there congrats!! Here in North America we will be getting the Black Chest Edition and is available exclusively on Ubisoft’s UPlay Network and features a diarama of Capt. Edward Kenway, steelbook case, soundtrack, new in-game content and much more as you can see above.

The second collector’s set available here is the Black Island Pack which comes with mostly in-game stuff like a new treasure hunting quest, new pistols and multiplayer items. Try and contain your excitement.

No pricing was given for the collector’s editions. Assassin’s Creed IV releases on October 29th.

Check out the new gameplay trailer below and before you get all goosebumpy and ready to pre-order, just remember how great the ads were for AC3. The new trailer does appear to try ans take the series in new directions, so let’s hope Ubisoft can deliver on the potential.

  • PETA Has A Problem With Whaling In Assassin’s Creed IV

PETA has spoken out against the act of whaling in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. In an interview with Polygon, Matt Bruce, PETA’s Bullsh** Job Title  International Grassroots Campaigns spokesperson said this about the virtual portrayal of whaling.

“There are so many creative minds at Ubisoft that are involved with the Assassin’s Creed series, that we find it really disappointing that they feel the need to glorify whaling. PETA encourages video game companies to create games that celebrate animals, not games that promote hurting and killing them.”

He went on to tell what we as gamers will specifically feel when this senseless killing of a fake, virtual creature happens.

“In Assassin’s Creed 4, you get ahead by killing. Joe Shmoe who plays this game in his mother’s basement in the safety and comfort of his home will feel a sense of accomplishment by killing this whale.”

If you want to read Ubisoft’s response to PETA just hit the link above for the entire article. Here is mine.

Will I feel a sense of accomplishment for killing a whale in Assassin’s Creed IV? You’re damn right I will! If there was an achievement for killing 30 whales and selling their fat to Indians for a bunch of blankets and native girls to have on my pirate ship, then get ready, cause I am about to get 30 more points added to my gamerscore!!!

Or better yet I want to be able to hang their blubbery heads on the front of my ship as an announcement to all the other virtual whales swimming in the virtual sea of this VIDEO GAME that I am a pirate not to be f&!%* with.

LET’S KILL SOME WHALES!!!!! (fake ones I mean)

  • More Far Cry May Be Here Sooner Than Expected

    Photo far-cry.ubi.com

Far Cry 3 was one of the big surprises last year. It was released in a busy holiday season, but great games will find their way to the forefront and has shipped 4.5 million copies since its December release. We gave the game a stellar 9.5 review and could not recommend it higher.

Now Ubisoft may be releasing more Far Cry sooner rather than later. In an interview with Joystiq, Far Cry 3 head writer Jeffrey Yohalem gave a bit of cryptic information that we may not be too far of from the return of last year’s best shooter.

“Yes, I’m working on something now that will be surprising, I think, when it’s announced. But it definitely is a ‘strike while the iron’s hot’ thing, and we’ll see.”

It sounds like we may be getting an add-on to Far Cry 3 unless Ubisoft has an ace up their sleeve and have already begun development of the fourth entry in the franchise.

    More please.

  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Premiere Trailer

Ahoy! Avast! And get ready for almost a year of pirate jokes until Assassin’s Creed IV comes out. I know, I know, I will grow just as tired of thinking of them and writing them as you will of reading them, but what are we gonna do? This is the hand that Ubisoft has dealt us and we might as well run with it.

    Back to subject.

Hey! Have you been wondering just where in the heck you can find that pesky trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag at?! Why it is just below and it features that scourge of the seven seas Blackbeard, though sadly, not the Ian McShane version.

    God, I miss Deadwood.

He is preaching up all the mateys at the local pub about the legend of Edward Kenway, a legendary pirate who would go on to father a boring British guy and grandfather an even more boring Indian grandson.

Those Kenway’s sure do like sampling the world’s culture’s, don’t they?

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flack releases on October 29th for every system imaginable. I am pretty sure there is a 3DO version also.

  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Box Art Revealed

The worst kept video game secret of the past few weeks is official. Assassin’s Creed’s next installment will indeed have a pirate theme and apparently try to see how many weapons one man can have on his person at one time.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is the next chapter in the AC saga and will star Edward Kenway, who is father of Haytham and dear old grandad to Connor from Assassin’s Creed 3. It now seems likely the naval battles from AC3 were a testing ground to see if a whole game could be set around them. Let’s just hope you don’t spend the first six hours of the game as another character that is not on the cover.

As with past Assassin’s Creed installments, it was announced that the Playstation would be receiving extra content totaling about an extra hour of gameplay.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag releases this fall.

  • Has Assassin’s Creed IV Leaked Already?

Oops. Seems like Kotaku may have uncovered a bit of spoilery news pertaining to the next game in the Assassin’s Creed series.

A picture they have posted show a promotional poster for Assassin’s Creed IV: Blag Flag which has a pirate themed assassin which matches up with some of the earlier rumors which suggested that theme and would be taking place in the Caribbean. So for those of you that the naval battles were your favorite part of [amazon_link id=”B0050SXFKE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Assassin’s Creed 3[/amazon_link] this will be happy news if this proves to be true.

Now if the guys at Ubisoft were promotional wizards they would combine this game with ads for Black Flag bug spray.
