  • The Walking Dead Sets Another Ratings Record

If you were waiting on The Walking Dead to show signs of slow down in the ratings, you may have a long wait ahead. The Season 4 premiere of the AMC show set another ratings record last night with 16.1 million viewers. The previous highest watched episode was the Season 3 finale with 12.4 million viewers. It was so big that the major networks Sunday night ratings were down 17% total.

How about this? NBC has not announced the ratings for last night’s Sunday Night Football but there is a good chance that The Walking Dead may have drawn more viewers in total. That is f***ing insane. With DVR playback, AMC thinks that total viewership could top 20 million viewers. For a basic cable show.

I enjoyed last night’s premiere. I know the series is far from perfect and can never truly encapsulate how great the comic series is but the show made great strides in Season 3 and looks to be moving at a good pace.

The Talking Dead also had big ratings with 5.1 million viewers. I think we can attribute that to Nathan Fillion.

  • Want More Walking Dead? AMC Hopes So. Spin-Off Series Coming In 2015

AMC is developing a spin-off for The Walking Dead with creator Robert Kirkman and show producers Dave Alpert and Gale Anne Hurd. The show would involve new characters and locations not in the current show.

This is a smart choice for AMC, even if some will roll their eyes at it. The Walking Dead is AMC’s highest rated show and a spin-off is logical considering Breaking Bad is ending in a few weeks and Mad Men’s seventh season will be its last. They have already given a go for the Breaking Bad prequel, Better Call Saul.

So the AMC lineup for 2015 should look like this:

    The Walking Deader/Deadest?

    Better Call Saul

    Madder Men

    High Summer Moon

    Graphic Novel Women

The prison is not looking like the safest place to be in the new poster for The Walking Dead. Rick and his group of survivors will bring in people from Woodbury while someone on the inside begins to sabotage their defenses. Also don’t forget that The Governor is still riding around somewhere and will be wanting his revenge.

The Walking Dead starts on October 13th.

As big a fan of The Walking Dead as I am (both comic and show), there is no way to say that Season 2 was not a little boring and really felt stretched too thin to make 16 episodes. Gladly, Season 3 seemed to address those issues and it really began to show what it is capable of with much better pacing with split stories between the prison and Woodbury as well as the inclusion of new characters that fans cared about.

We are a little over a month away from Season 4 and AMC is turning up the promotion dial to ten including a sneek peek during last night’s Low Winter Sun. It is only 45 seconds, but it is 45 seconds of Michonne so enjoy it.

The Walking Dead returns on October 13th.

Now here is a reason to get back playing board games. USAopoly has announced The Walking Dead versions of Monopoly and Risk that put a zombie spin on the games.

Risk will feature a map of the southeastern region of the United States (where the comic is based) and new decks of Event and Supply Cards will add the strategy to the classic game as you try to escape zombie hordes.

Monopoly will give players new tokens to choose from including: Michonne’s Katana, Dale’s RV, bucket of body parts, Rick’s hat, a telephone and the now infamous Lucille. Properties have been changed as well to include some of the series most recognizable environments like Woodbury, Greene Farmhouse and The Kingdom.

Risk retails for $49.99 and Monopoly will cost $39.99.

  • The Walking Dead Season 4 Trailer Is Un-Fu**ing-Believable

    the_walking_dead_57620

Even for fans that have turned their backs on The Walking Dead, you can not deny that the Season 4 trailer shown at Comic-Con is easily the best the show has ever looked. The main characters are established with Tyreese and Michonne now firmly entrenched in the group and the remnants of the population of Woodbury moved in. Now it appears that someone is secretly compromising the safety of the prison forcing Rick and everyone to think about leaving.

For a fan of the comics (me) this is the closest the show has been in tone and feel to the monthly series since Season 1. I am loving the “solve the mystery” aspect the trailer plays up as the group wonders why the prison is closing in around them.

The Walking Dead returns on October 13th.

  • New EW Covers For Season 4 Of The Walking Dead

After a stellar Season 3, The Walking Dead is headed to San Diego Comic-Con as the highest rated show on cable and even had more viewers in the coveted 18-49 demographic than most shows on broadcast television. The new issue of Entertainment Weekly has devoted three covers to the massive hit and gives some news about the upcoming fourth season.

Andrew Lincoln, Chandler Riggs and Norman Reedus have the honor of being the cover boys this year and I can already hear the swoons of women everywhere (my girlfriend included) at the Reedus cover, but really can you blame them? I would hit it if I was a female…or maybe really super drunk.

The Walking Dead returns this October.

Telltale Games is making the wait on Season Two of their acclaimed The Walking Dead video game a little bit easier to bear. The Walking Dead: 400 Days is a one episode piece of DLC that will focus on five survivors as their lives intersect at a truck stop.

Each survivor has a playable section that you can play in any order as it tells their stories in the first 400 days of the zombie outbreak. You do not need to have played all of Season One of The Walking Dead to enjoy 400 Days, but you must have at least Episode One downloaded on your system to play the new DLC.

The Walking Dead: 400 Days will release in July on 360, PS3, Vita, PC, iOS and Mac for only $4.99. Check out the trailer below.

  • Michael Rooker Joins Guardians Of The Galaxy, Raises Awesomeness By 200%

Guardians of the Galaxy is shaping up to have one of the most unique casts for a Marvel film by far. Michael Rooker has joined the cast to go along with Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and the (rumored) addition of Zoe Saldana. Rooker will play Yondu, one of the founding members of the Guardians.

Yondu is from Centauri IV and possesses the ability to have empathic relationships with certain lifeforms and can sense when mystical beings and forces are near.

Let’s just all agree that by adding Michael Rooker, Guardians of the Galaxy just got on a lot more radars, specifically fans of The Walking Dead who might not have heard of the Guardians movie. Although I’m sure Yondu won’t be as much fun as Merle and his stump-handed racism.

Guardians of the Galaxy releases on August 1, 2014.

  • The Last Of Us Red Band Trailer Makes Us Ask Is It June 14th Yet?

If you were watching last night’s (disappointing) season finale of The Walking Dead then you were treated to all kinds of zombie fun. The Zombie Run 5K and World War Z had ads on the show, but the one that we actually cared about was the new 30 second spot for Naughty Dog’s [amazon_link id=”B007CM0K86″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Last of Us[/amazon_link].

As many of my exes have said, thirty seconds is just not long enough so here is the extended two minute trailer complete with dirty words (fuck) and goriness (blood). Joel, Ellie and Tess are all featured prominently and we see plenty of zombie (but not zombie) killing action. Every time I see some new footage I am astounded by how great the voice acting is.

The Last of Us releases on June 14th.
