If you were watching last night’s (disappointing) season finale of The Walking Dead then you were treated to all kinds of zombie fun. The Zombie Run 5K and World War Z had ads on the show, but the one that we actually cared about was the new 30 second spot for Naughty Dog’s [amazon_link id=”B007CM0K86″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Last of Us[/amazon_link].
As many of my exes have said, thirty seconds is just not long enough so here is the extended two minute trailer complete with dirty words (fuck) and goriness (blood). Joel, Ellie and Tess are all featured prominently and we see plenty of zombie (but not zombie) killing action. Every time I see some new footage I am astounded by how great the voice acting is.
Naughty Dog has started to release developer videos leading up to the June release of The Last of Us.
The first is titled “Hush” and focuses on the development process that went into creating the infected citizens. Not wanting to make them simply zombies, they took their inspiration from the fungal plants they saw on the BBC documentary Planet Earth and wondered what would happen if the fungus spread to humans.
Naughty Dog has something special looking on their hands as many have seen since E3 a few years ago.

Naughty Dog has officially announced that their post-apocalyptic game [amazon_link id=”B007CM0K86″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Last of Us[/amazon_link] has been delayed by five weeks. The game will now release on June 14th, which also happens to be a Friday.
Naughty Dog has released an official statement on the delay:
“As a team we pride ourselves on setting a very high quality bar for every aspect of our games – gameplay, story, art, design, technology and more. We want to make sure The Last of Us raises that bar even further – for ourselves, and most importantly, our fans.
As we entered the final phase of development for The Last of Us, we came to realize just how massive Joel and Ellie’s journey is. But instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s internal high standards.”
This hurts a lot considering how long we have been salivating over every bit of coverage we have seen for the past two years, but delays almost always mean that we will be getting a better product and that’s the important thing. But still.
Are you finding it hard to get excited for Kratos’ next adventure in what may be the biggest spring in gaming history? Sony wants to help you with that by offering the first official demo for Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic game [amazon_link id=”B007CM0K86″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Last of Us[/amazon_link] with copies of God of War: Ascension. the demo will contain one full chapter of the game but it is not known if it will be the first chapter (one would assume).
God of War: Ascension releases on March 12th and The Last of Us on May 7th.
Why do I always want expensive things? Why must game companies feed my obsession?
[amazon_link id=”B007CM0K86″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Last of Us[/amazon_link], Naughty Dog’s newest title, is set for release on May 7th and today we got a look at the two collector’s editions that will be available for the game.
The Survival Edition will come with a steelbook version of the game, 170 page hardcover art book, a copy of The Last of Us: American Dreams #1 comic book, a Naughty Dog sticker sheet and the Sights and Sounds DLC pack (game soundtrack, PS3 theme and PSN avatars). The more elaborate Post Pandemic Edition has a 12-inch statue of Joel & Ellie, steelbook version of the game, a copy of The Last of Us: American Dreams #1 comic book, Naughty Dog sticker sheet, Sights and Sounds DLC pack and the Survival DLC pack (multiplayer bonuses and Joel & Ellie skins). It will retail for $159.99 and be in very limited quality. It is also up for pre-order now.
A new video for The Last of Us has been released and it shows the transformation of Annie Wersching into the newest character revealed for the game, Tess, through motion capture. This scene shown is from the new trailer that was shown at the VGA’s which has Joel and Tess in a heated argument.
It takes a lot for a game to make me put a new Gears of War on the back burner but Naughty Dog’s [amazon_link id=”B007CM0K86″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Last of Us[/amazon_link] is doing just that. It is easily my most looked forward to game of next year and the biggest question of all was finally answered at Spike VGA’s this past weekend.
When is the thing coming out?
Luckily it won’t be too much longer. The Last of Us is set for release on May 7, 2013 which puts it at the perfect time when I should be done with the plethora of games coming out in the spring.
Naughty Dog also detailed the pre-order bonuses that you will receive when you pick up your copy next May. Officially called the Sights and Sounds Pack, gamers that pre-order will receive the game’s soundtrack, PS3 background theme and two avatars for your PSN profile (winter Joel and winter Ellie).
One piece of news that caught some off guard was the fact that there will be a multiplayer component to the game. Naughty Dog did not give any specifics into the multiplayer but did say that pre-orders would also receive the Survival Pack for the mysterious section of the game. Extras include a melee attack booster, extra in-game cash, bonus XP, special character items and two special characters skins for Joel and Ellie after completion of the single-player game.
Last but certainly not least is the new trailer that debuted at the VGA’s. It gives us a good look (so far) of the infected population. Mostly until now most of the gameplay has shown off Joel and Ellie fighting off non-infected humans as they try to survive. Take a look at the new trailer below and let us know if you are looking forward to the game as much as I am.
