  • Metal Gear Solid 5 Formally Announced. Get Ready For Kojima Confusion

AT LAST!! THE GREAT MYSTERY IS SOLVED!!

The worst kept secret in video games was officially unveiled today as Hideo Kojima announced at GDC that The Phantom Pain was indeed Metal Gear Solid 5. But he also had a bit of an ace up his sleeve and said that both The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes combine together to make Metal Gear Solid 5.

It seems like the official title will be Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. A new trailer was shown that combined footage from both previous trailers of The Phantom Pain and MGS: Ground Zeroes as well as some new info. It seems Snake has been in a coma for the past nine years and the initial hospital escape shown in The Phantom Pain trailer back in December will serve as the game’s tutorial and opening.

The game was running on a PC on the new FOX Engine and should be pretty close to what the final build will look like when the game releases, presumably on the Playstation 4.

Before you watch the trailer below just remember this is a Kojima trailer which means to fully understand the depth of what is happening you need to get sloppy drunk with some Kentucky bourbon, preferably Woodford Reserve. Then, get good and addicted to heroin. I am talking about Jared Leto in Requiem for a Dream addicted . Finally, you must stab an adrenaline shot directly into your heart and press play on the video.

    Perfect understanding awaits…enjoy the trailer!!

During a recent media and technology conference, EA’s chief technical officer,Rajat Taneja, had many glowing things to say about Sony’s recently announced behemoth Playstation 4.

“We are excited about Sony’s news and the launch of the next-gen of consoles. At EA, we have never been as prepared or more ready for the start of a new console.”

Taneja went on to say that there were really no more limits with development that they have experienced in the past.

“We no longer have to constrain our games or ration computer graphics, memory or bandwidth. We can let the games really flourish in 1080p, 60 frames a second” on PS4, presenting “a level of gameplay experience that is unprecedented.”

He also talked of EA’s enthusiasm about the next generation of gaming with the PS4, “We are excited about Sony’s news and the launch of the next-gen of consoles. At EA, we have never been as prepared or more ready for the start of a new console.”

  • Will The New Xbox Be Revealed In April?

There are rumors swirling that Microsoft will wait until April to unveil their next version of Xbox in a big event much like with the Xbox 360. This will put the announcement after this year’s GDC which takes place the last week of March.

If Microsoft is set on doing this it can only strengthen Sony’s chance to make the PS4 shine especially if they now have PAX East and GDC to put more Playstation in the eyes and ears of fans. I thought Microsoft should strike while the iron was hot on the new console talk and announced in mid-March right before GDC and take a little of Sony’s thunder away.

Waiting until April makes me think that this was the set date all along for Microsoft and that Sony’s announcement this past Wednesday might have caught them off guard. Sony had a great first showing and everyone is now thinking that all the pressure is on Microsoft to match up to Sony’s announcement.

  • Jimmy Fallon Plays Killzone: Shadow Fall

Guerrilla Games took their PS4 exclusive Killzone: Shadow Fall to The Jimmy Fallon Show and let the host and guest Anthony Anderson get a chance to play. This should put to rest any rumors saying that the demo on Wednesday night was not gameplay because when you see how badly Fallon and Anderson suck at this it is pretty evident that this sucker is real.

Fun fact: all the weight Anthony Anderson lost was used as Jaden Smith’s stunt double in The Karate Kid.

  • Diablo 3 Headed To The PS3 And PS4

One of the great surprises last night was when Blizzard took to the stage and finally confirmed that Diablo 3 would be making the jump from PC to consoles. Not only that, but the loot filled dungeon crawler will see release on both the PS3 and PS4.

The game will have new customized controls for consoles, new camera perspective and a new interface. For those of you (like me) without a quality PC this is very welcome news. Well that and I like a controller more than keyboard and mouse. I know, I know blasphemy blah, blah, blah.

Diablo 3 will be playable at this year’s PAX East on March 22-24.

  • Here Are The PS4 Titles We Know Of So Far

We are only one day removed from Sony’s announcement of the Playstation 4 and still months away from E3 and already the console has a modest, but very good lineup of games. Ubisoft, Sucker Punch, Guerrilla and even Square showed their future titles and it was enough to get this gamer excited for this fall when the PS4 comes home. Here are the games we know of so far:

    Killzone: Shadow Fall (Guerrilla)

    Infamous: Second Son (Sucker Punch)

    Watch Dogs (Ubisoft)

    Knack (Studio Japan)

    Diablo 3 (Blizzard)

    Drive Club (Evolution)

    Final Fantasy (Square)

    Destiny (Bungie)

    The Witness (Thekla)

    Deep Down (Capcom)

The Witcher 3 (CD Projekt RED)

Sony also said that a plethora of studios are already pledging support for the PS4. Instead of listing them all check out a screenshot of last night’s event and see that every major player is going to be involved with developing for the next Playstation.

  • Watch Dogs PS4 Demo Steals The Show

If one game truly took the crowd’s attention last night it was Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs. The game already won everyone over at last year’s E3 and the demo shown last night just furthered the fact that this may be a special game on the way. The feel I got from the trailer was it is a little Minority Report mixed with Grand Theft Auto, but you appear to be doing good acts instead of killing hookers. But you never know there is always time to add in hooker killing. He does steal some cash from an ATM, but I don’t compare that to killing ladies of the night.

Watch Dogs will release this fall and should be a PS4 launch title. The only confirmed consoles so far are the PS4 and Wii U.
