  • First Shot From Captain America: The Winter Soldier As Production Starts

Captain America: The Winter Soldier has officially started shooting and Marvel has sent out an image from the sequel. Cap will have to become readjusted to life in this new, modern world after the events of The Avengers. He will be pitted against his old wartime friend Bucky Barnes who has been transformed into a dangerous agent known as The Winter Soldier. With Scarlett Johansson having a bigger role as Black Widow in this story I would think they will play out a Bucky/Natasha love story (or at least plant the seeds of one).  And somehow I managed to get Scarlett’s name in a sentence with plant a seed….I have a problem.

Captain America: The Winter Solider releases on April 4, 2014.

Yesterday saw the release of the [amazon_link id=”B0083SBMGW” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Marvel Phase One Blu-Ray Set[/amazon_link] that came encased in a handy briefcase and housed a glowing Tesseract replica. Oh and there were 10 discs and six movies in there also. One of the special features was a five minute clip of what to expect from Marvel’s Phase Two which begins with the release of Iron Man 3 on May 3rd. In it we are treated to some test footage from Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man and some early shots of Guardians of the Galaxy storyboards. There is also new footage from Thor: The Dark World and the first artists renderings of Winter Soldier and Falcon from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Check out some still shots below from the video and then realize that despite what people may say about the character, Ant-Man is going to be completely bad ass in the hands of Edgar Wright.

  • Joss Whedon Blown Away By Iron Man 3’s Ending

Well here is another reason to be even more excited for Iron Man 3 this May. Marvel president Kevin Feige has been making the rounds building up the hype machine for the Shane Black directed sequel and in a recent interview he may have gave the biggest reason to think that Iron Man 3 may be the best Marvel movie yet.

There are a lot of suits in this movie. While it is both a movie in which he spends quite a bit of time outside of the suit, as you see it’s not working and he’s — and he’s with Ty in Tennessee, by the end of it we reveal that underneath the house, which is now covered with rubble, he’s got dozens and dozens of suits.

And once, throughout the course of the movie, and all that rubble gets pulled aside by construction cranes, just when he needs them, he calls them to the rescue and we have what I think is the biggest most action-packed finale we’ve had. I showed the film to Joss Whedon, who is our writer-director of Avengers and who is currently working on Avengers 2, and he saw the finale of this and he goes, ‘Now what am I supposed to do now? What am I going to do in Avengers 2?’”

So the ending of Iron Man 3 has Joss Whedon wondering how is going to top it in Avengers 2? Consider my excitement level at maximum thanks to Whedon and his damn opinion.

  • Thanos Is Set To Be Batista Bombed

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has found its second member. Chris Pratt was cast a few weeks back as Peter Quill, the Star-Lord and now ex-WWE wrestler Dave Bautista is going to play Drax the Destroyer. Drax is a human that was given another body with special powers to take revenge on Thanos. With the movie’s budget I can be pretty sure that they will not just paint him green like an Orion slave girl from Star Trek.

One interesting thought I just had. How rather odd would it be that Dave Bautista could see his star in Hollywood rise to the same level that The Rock has been working on for ten years after just one Marvel movie?

Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014.

  • Deadpool Introduces His Game’s New Trailer

Everyone’s favorite Marvel multi-personality anti-hero is back and he is showing off some more footage from his new game brilliantly titled Deadpool. The game is being developed by High Moon Studios and already seems to have the merc’s signature mouth down to a science. Now let’s just hope the controls and gunplay can live up to fan’s expectations.

There are many things to like about this trailer and one thing to love and you will realize it when I type the next sentence.

Deadpool motorboats Cable’s massively Rob Liefeld-like man boobs.

Go and watch to your heart’s content.

Deadpool releases this summer for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

  • J.J. Abrams Had A Hand In Iron Man 3

In a recent interview with IGN, Robert Downey Jr. revealed that at one point in the production of Iron Man 3 they turned to Star Trek and Star Wars director J.J. Abrams for some advice on the film’s third act.

“There were a couple times in Iron Man 3 where our lifeline was we’d call Jon Favreau. ‘What do we do?’ He’d be like, ‘Stick with this. Stick with the love story,’ or whatever. Then he’d say, ‘Wait, didn’t we used to do this same thing with Shane?’ Because we reached out to Shane a bunch, particularly in the first Iron Man.

Then I think we reached out to J.J. Abrams at one point when we were really confused in Act III, and he helped us, too. It’s just interesting. Usually you think, in the legacy of filmmakers that come and go, there’s something so evocative about how strange it is that this particular strain of the Marvel universe was so successful, so what are the reasons for that and how do we keep that vital and just have fun?”

Seriously?! Is there nothing that Abrams has his hand in now?? First Star Trek, then Star Wars and now Marvel?

Well…now that I think about it there is no guarantee that Joss Whedon would return for The Avengers 3.

Smooth move J.J. You sir, are thinking ahead of the curve.

  • Pepper Potts Looks Somber In New Iron Man 3 Poster

Hell wouldn’t you if you were holding your boyfriend’s metal shell of a head? Gwyneth Paltrow joins Don Cheadle, Guy Perace and Ben Kingsley to get the single poster treatment for Marvel’s threequel.

Marvel can keep preaching that Iron Man 3 is not going to be a darker movie, but the trailers, posters and director (Shane Black) are saying otherwise. Now I am not saying this will go into Dark Knight “pit of despair” stuff, but it certainly looker to be much bleaker than the first two films.

Iron Man 3 releases on May 3rd.

  • Fantastic Four Reboot Gains X-Men: First Class Director

Suddenly this Fantastic Four reboot is looking like the real deal. First they brought on Chronicle director Josh Trank to take head of the “world’s greatest comic magazine” and now it appears Fox’s head honcho for all things Marvel, Mark Millar, has pulled off another great move.

Millar tweeted that Matthew Vaughn, director of X-Men: First Class and early favorite for the new Star Wars film, has been brought on to produce the film. It does seem like an odd move for Vaughn. He was set to return for the First Class sequel Days of Future’s Past, but dropped out without warning and was replaced with Bryan Singer. Now he is back in with Marvel and Fox only as a producer.

Casting has not begun or a release date given for the new Fantastic Four.

  • Jason Momoa Turns Down Guardians

Well it seems like the allure of a big box office wasn’t enough to lure Khal Drogo to the Marvel Universe.

Jason Momoa has turned down the role of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Reports are that the Marvel offer to the actor was quite low, but that has been the story with a lot of actors in Marvel movies (see: Terrence Howard).

I understand the move by Momoa wanting more money, but let’s face it, sometimes you should bite the bullet to get the exposure. Conan and Bullet to the Head didn’t exactly burn up the box office and seeing as how Khal Drogo was a one season affair in Game of Thrones, being in a Marvel flick would have been serious exposure.

Marvel will now go back to their previous list of actors for the role that included Dave Bautista, Isaiah Mustafa and Brian Patrick Wade.

  • New Iron Man 3 Poster Features The Mandarin

Soooo are you ready for Iron Man 3 now??

The newest poster for the Marvel sequel has Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin front and center looking very militant and quite badass.

One quick thought: as much as I like this poster and Kingsley’s look I can’t help but also get a Sasha Baron Cohen as The Dictator at 65. Seriously, I can’t help it.

Iron Man 3 releases on May 3rd.
