  • Let’s Rate Sony’s Gamescom Announcements

Sony kept proving why they are the place to go for indie games during their press conference at Gamescom. They showed off a lengthy array of games as well as announcing substantial upgrades for the PS4 and a milestone for the system.

    1. PS4 has sold 10 million consoles.

    ps4

This was a self-high five announcement, but it was impressive anyway. The PS4 has only been available ten months and people have adopted it quickly.

    2. Where the hell is the Vita?

    Self explanatory.

    3. Firmware 2.0 coming this fall

PS4’s Firmware 2.0 will not be a small affair when it releases this fall. Share Play will let players “loan” their games to friends on their PSN list to play co-op games even when one player does not own the game. The ability to load your gameplay videos directly to YouTube is also in the update

    Nerd Rating- 8/10

    4. DayZ coming to PS4.

    DayZ-2

The PC game that is so close to how human society will act during the apocalypse is coming to PS4. They didn’t announce a release time, but this is a good get for Sony.

  • Let’s Rate Microsoft’s Gamescom Announcements

There was no sitting on hands this year at Microsoft. The company came heavy with announcements during their Gamescom press conference. So we thought we would hit the biggies with ratings to see how excited we are about all of the games and whatnot.

    1. Rise of the Tomb Raider is an Xbox exclusive

    tombraider_zps865d77bb

Huge news for Xbox owners. A kick in the nuts for everyone else. This will be a timed exclusive most likely, but it still doesn’t mean that Playstation owners are not getting the shaft. I don’t mind DLC exclusives and all that, but a multi-platform game should be available the same day.

There is already a huge negative response to this news.

    Still, giant news for Microsoft.

    Nerd Rating- 8/10

    2. Multiple Xbox One bundles

    Call_of_Duty_Advance_warfare_limited_edition_Xbox_One

The rumored Sunset Overdrive white Xbox One bundle was announced. A European bundle with FIFA 15 will also be available.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare gets an Xbox One bundle and it is a nice deal. A special edition console with a 1TB hard drive, special controller and copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

    Nerd Rating- 8/10

    3. The Halo Channel

The Halo Channel will be the hub for all things Halo on the Xbox One. Watching and streaming games through Twitch that will “seamlessly transition between Halo games and other Halo experiences”.

The Halo: Nightfall series will also be available on The Halo Channel.

  • Playstation Vita Gets A Price Reduction

The Playstation Vita will finally be getting a price drop to $199 as of……now. Also the price of the memory cards will see a sizable reduction. For people that have been considering buying a Vita, that is what we call a win/win. For those of us with [amazon_link id=”B003O6EATE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Vita’s[/amazon_link]…just a win, but a good one.

  • Playstation 4 Release Date Revealed

Sony just finished up their Gamescom conference and it was another strong showing anchored by a very strong indie lineup and titles like Killzone: Shadow Fall, Watch Dogs and more. They also showed off the Vita’s ability to remote play games with a live demo of Assassin’s Creed IV being played on the handheld.

The big news everyone was waiting on was saved for the end when it was announced that the [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVQO” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Playstation 4[/amazon_link] would release on November 15th in North America and November 29th in Europe.

Now we just wait to see what will be the release of the Xbox One in response to Sony’s announcement today.

  • Here Is How Much You Will Be Paying For The New Killer Instinct

When you unbox your fancy new [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVMI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Xbox One[/amazon_link] this fall you will be able to download the new Killer Instinct for free. You will be able to play as Jago as much as you want and not spend a penny. But do you really only want to play as Jago? C’mon.

Each additional character on the roster will run you $4.99 a pop or you can purchase the Combo Breaker pack for $19.99 and get the six characters available at launch, two post-launch characters and the original Killer Instinct arcade game. For those KI nuts (like me) that want even more there is the Ultra Edition. This will set you back $34.99 and gives you the six launch characters, two post-launch characters, original KI arcade game, extra costumes and accessory packs.

The individual pricing model is a new direction for a fighter, but really who would buy them for $4.99 when you can get them all for $19.99?

Killer Instinct will release this fall.

  • Fable Legends Announced

Lionhead Studios revealed the next entry in the Fable franchise at Gamescom and it is taking it in an exciting new direction.

    Fable Legends will be an [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVMI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Xbox One[/amazon_link] exclusive title which will feature five-player co-op.

    Why five, you may ask?

Well, four friends will take control of four different character classes including a cocky prince character, a burly archer, a female mage and another female with a rather huge wooden shield to take on the forces of evil in the land of Albion. The twist comes in the fifth player who will be playing the role of villain. They will be able to view the world from a top-down perspective and will have control over the enemies the heroes face as well as setting up traps and other nefarious means to defeat the doers of good.

Intrigued yet? I know I am.

You are able to play Fable Legends as a single-player experience with AI taking over the other four roles in the game, but the game is being built to be fully enjoyed with five friends online.

No release date was given for Fable Legends. Check out the trailer below narrated by the wonderful Michael Gambon, who should really do narration for everything from airplane safety videos to feminine hygiene. His voice is that soothing.

  • You Have Seen All Of The Footage In This Xbox One Gamescom Video. It’s Still Fun To Watch.

    Microsoft is at Gamescom in full force and have released this trailer focusing on all the games that will be coming to the [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVMI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Xbox One[/amazon_link] including: [amazon_link id=”B00DB9JYFY” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Titanfall[/amazon_link], [amazon_link id=”B00DB90AHA” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Dead Rising 3[/amazon_link], [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTTQG” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Forza 5[/amazon_link] and more.

With all of Microsoft’s policy shifts in the past few months it certainly looks like they have turned a corner going into the launch of their new system. While the PS4 has the better price and positive feedback with gamers (including me) I can not deny that the Xbox One launch lineup has me more excited.

  • New Dead Rising 3 Gamescom Trailer Is Very Pro-Choice

Capcom has released a new CG trailer for their [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVMI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Xbox One[/amazon_link] launch title, Dead Rising 3 and if you do not say “holy shit” after thirty seconds then you are a sick, sick person and will do well in the zombie apocalypse. This game is looking like it will be THE Xbox One title to get on day one.

[amazon_link id=”B00DB90AHA” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Dead Rising 3[/amazon_link] will release this fall and don’t forget that Dead Rising 2 is free to all Xbox Live Gold members until the end of the month.
