  • New Empire Covers Feature Superman And General Zod

You gotta hand it to Empire Magazine, one of the reasons they get me to spend $10 on a magazine are the wonderful covers they have. Their June issue is no different with a Man of Steel 2-cover set. The first features Henry Cavill in a full shot in Supes attire and the second is Michael Shannon looking menacing and metallic as General Zod. The issue should be on newsstands this Thursday.

  • Retro Achievement List: Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire

    Previously on Retro Achievement List:

We here at Nerd Rating love achievements and trophies. We are admitted whores for them, but when you think about it, the practice of gamerscores is only seven years old with the introduction of the Xbox 360. We have 30 years of backlogged video games that need to be updated! So that is what we are venturing to do. Our new feature called Retro Achievement List will look back at games of the past and give them a set of achievements to strive for even if they may not seem serious.

With the news that Disney is shutting down LucasArts as a game developer it has made us look back at the great games the developer gave us over the past 20 years. I have picked Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire because of the sheer amount of time I spent in this game. You see kids, way back in the ancient year of 1996, games for the just released Nintendo 64 were hard to find. I had already collected all 120 stars two times over on Super Mario 64 and shot rockets at every mountainside in Pilotwings 64, so when Shadows hit the system 3 months after the N64 launch, I was clamoring for it like Casey Anthony for another kid. And it was glorious! I mean if you go back and play it today it looks and plays like absolute shit, but back then….my mind was blown. Ship combat and a FPS with a game that bridged Episode 4 and 5, sign me up! But there are no achievements for the game….until now.

    Achievement Unlocked:

We want to hear from all of you also! What achievements would you add to Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire? Leave us a comment below or tweet us your responses on Twitter (@nerdrating) and use the hashtag #RetroAchievement

  • Star Wars Spinoff Movies Confirmed, Will Center On Young Han And Boba Fett

In news that really didn’t surprise anyone, Disney is damn sure going to get their $4 billion worth out of the Star Wars license.

In other news that may surprise, the rumored standalone Star Wars films that will center on stories outside the new trilogy are officially happening with Empire scribe Lawrence Kasdan and Sherlock Holmes writer Simon Kinberg working on the scripts.

But we already heard about that. I hear you exclaiming.

I know that. The surprising part is that it has been found out that one movie will focus on a young Han Solo and his origin story and the second will center on everyone’s favorite Sarlacc dinner (yes, I know he didn’t die technically) and bounty hunter Boba Fett.

The Boba Fett movie would either take place between A New Hope and Empire or between Empire and Return of the Jedi. Either way, as long as they get as far away from the horrible orphan boy clone in Episode 2, then we will be good to go.

On the Han side of things, we don’t know if this will be how he met Chewbacca or if the Wookie will even be involved. The most fun aspect of this new Han-centric movie has got to be the casting. Let’s take for granted that a script by Kasdan or Kinberg is going to be pretty good. Now who do you find to take over an iconic role this large? And do you try to get Harrison Ford to come back? Maybe have Han reflecting back on days gone by as he sits on his intergalactic rocking chair.

  • Empire Magazine Shows Off New Man Of Steel Pictures

Empire Magazine’s newest issue has a few shots from the new Man of Steel movie including the impressive cover you see above of Henry Cavill fully suited as Superman. Also shown are shots of Russell Crowe as Jor-El and Michael Shannon as Zod.

Empire is a great read but I normally don’t want to pay 10 bucks for a magazine. That may change with this issue.

Man of Steel releases June 14th.

  • Nestle’s Star Wars Coffee Makers Are Real And I Want One

“What a lovely smell you’ve discovered.”

    First the good news:

These insanely amazing Star Wars coffee makers are completely real. Darth Vader can be seen above and C-3PO is below. Each will come with its own corresponding coffee mug (Empire or Rebel Alliance) and the sayings on the side actually are used well. Who wants one? I know I do and I don’t even drink coffee.

    Now the bad news:

They are only available in Japan. Yeah, I know its not like Americans like Star Wars or drink coffee by the billions of gallons every year. Releasing it in Japan only makes complete sense. Let’s hope that changes in the future.
