  • New Assassin’s Creed IV Video Focuses On Stealth

Ubisoft has released a new video for Assassin’s Creed IV detailing the use of stealth in the various missions you will find across the game including the exploration of hidden caverns. You also see the virtual Havana they have created and how smooth the parkour gameplay looks when traversing from rooftop to rooftop. I pray that this is the first Assassin’s Creed that can fix the climbing controls because for a series that relies so heavily on it, it has always seemed too stiff.

    Assassin’s Creed 4 releases on October 29th.

  • Satoru Iwata Says The Wii U Needs Games, Not A Price Drop

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata continues to reiterate that the Wii U does not need a price drop to be successful against the upcoming next-gen consoles. In an interview with CVG, Iwata gave the reasoning of the premium bundle selling more than the basic that shows the price is not the Wii U’s main problem.

“The basic version should have sold a lot, but the fact of the matter is that people are buying more of the premium version. So the issue is not there. I understand that the real issue is the lack of software, and the only solution is to provide the mass-market with a number of quality software titles.”

The lack of titles is not the only problem with the Wii U. It is “a” problem, but not “the” problem. The Nintendo problem lies with the software deficiency, the marketing of the system (there are still people who believe the Wii U is a controller add-on for the Wii) and the $350 price tag which is getting harder to justify as we get closer to the PS4’s launch at only $50 more. Nintendo made all the right decisions when it came to turning around the fortunes of the 3DS, yet they seem to be stuck in a Nintendo 64 mindset when it comes to the [amazon_link id=”B009AGXH64″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Wii U[/amazon_link].

  • Review: We’re The Millers

We’re the Millers is about transformation. The characters transform both in appearance and attitude and as the film moves forward they begin to adopt the characteristics of their false personalities. Now you would think that from those first two sentences this is a deeper movie than you would expect. It really isn’t. It is a film full of dirty language, ginormous spider-bitten balls and Jennifer Aniston as a stripper. It is also one of the funniest movie of the year so far.

Jason Sudeikis plays David Clark, a drug dealer that is living the perfect lazy life until a group of thugs rob all of his stock and cash. His boss (Ed Helms) is none too pleased with this and makes a deal with David that he will travel to Mexico and pick up some pot and transport it back across the border. After a run-in with a group of New York tourists, David realizes that the easiest way to make it across the border and back is to look like the prototypical all-American family.

He recruits his stripper neighbor (Aniston), who is on her last leg and being evicted from her apartment to play his wife, a homeless gutter-punk (Emma Roberts) to be his daughter and Kenny (Will Poulter), a naive kid in his complex to play his son. Once they make their way to Mexico they find that the “smidge” of pot is, in actuality, 2 tons and has been neatly stacked in every crevice of their RV. The little hitch in the giddy-up is that David’s boss sent him to actually steal drugs out from under a Mexican drug lord and now they are being chased by the kingpin and his rather menacing 7-foot tall henchman.  Along the way they meet up with another RV family, the Fitzgeralds. Don (Nick Offerman), Edie (Kathryn Hahn) and their daughter interweave themselves throughout the movie and provide some of the funniest banter along the way. They are a godsend during middle of the film when normally you would expect a lull in pacing or jokes because the back and forth between the families keep things moving until the plot picks back up.

We’re the Millers does fall into a lot of the normal comedy trappings. The shy kid finds a girl he likes and before he can make a move she catches him making out with with his “mom” and “sister”. OK, maybe not the “normal” comedy trappings, but there are more than a few moments in the movie that we have seen in a hundred comedies before. The main characters fall for each other, the punk girl realizes that having a family is what she actually wants, etc. Luckily this does not trip up the movie. When the jokes are perfectly placed and the delivery is spot on it can overcome the normality of the plot.

When it comes down to it, We’re the Millers is funny. It is actually damn funny. It may not change your life like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but you will laugh heartily a lot. Where else will you get to see Eustace from The Chronicles of Narnia show off his giant spider venom filled ball sack, Ron Swanson finger bang someone’s ear and Jennifer Aniston strip to her undies and get wet like the scene in Flashdance?

    Exactly.

  • WWE 2K14 Will Celebrate 30 Years Of Wrestlemania

One of the biggest features of this years WWE 2K14 has been announced and to coincide with next years Wrestlemania 30, the game will let players recreate 45 matches spanning the thirty years that the “grandaddy of them all” has been in existence. I wondered how the guys at Yuke’s would be able to surpass WWE 13’s amazing Attitude Era mode and this certainly has gotten my hopes very high. Only three matches have been revealed for the game so far and they are:

-Andre the Giant vs. Hulk Hogan (Wrestlemania 3)

-The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan (Wrestlemania 18)

-The Rock vs. John Cena (Wrestlemania 28)

The full list of legends available in the game will be revealed this Saturday, August 17th at the Summerslam Axxess event. This should give us a good indication of some of the matches that will be included in the 30 Years of Wrestlemania mode.

45 matches is good amount of content so I am hoping that the developers choose a good mixture of the classic and some off-the-wall stuff. Here are a few of my choices I would like to see when [amazon_link id=”B00CMC6HCY” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]WWE 2K14[/amazon_link] releases on October 29th.

-“Macho Man” Randy Savage vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat (Wrestlemania 3)

-Rick Rude vs. The Ultimate Warrior (Wrestlemania 5)

-Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania 10)

    -DDP vs. Christian (Wrestlemania 18)

-The Undertaker vs. Ric Flair (Wrestlemania 18)

-The Rock and Mick Foley vs. Evolution (Wrestlemania 20)

-Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker (Wrestlemania 25)

  • Weekend Box Office- August 9-11, 2013

Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium opened up at number one on a very busy late summer weekend. There were four new releases fighting for your hard earned money and when it came down to it Matt Damon and Jodie Foster edged out Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis…barely.

Elysium, Blomkamp’s follow-up to his Oscar nominated [amazon_link id=”B002SJIO5E” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]District 9[/amazon_link], brought in $30.5 million which is short on expectations for the sci-fi flick. We’re the Millers may have come in second, but it looks like the real winner of the weekend. The R-rated comedy was neck and neck with Elysium all weekend finishing with $26.5 million and since its release last Wednesday has grossed $38 million effectively making its budget back in the first weekend.

The other two releases, Disney’s Planes and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters finished third and fourth respectively. For Planes it is not bad news because this was originally supposed to be a direct-to-DVD Cars spinoff and Disney decided for a quick theatrical release and managed $22 million in the opening weekend.

    1. Elysium- $30.5 million/ $30.5 million

    2. We’re the Millers- $26.5/ $38.0

    3. Planes- $22.5/ $22.5

    4. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters- $14.6/ $23.4

    5. 2 Guns- $11.1/ $48.5

    6. The Smurfs 2- $9.5/ $46.6

    7. The Wolverine- $8.0/ $111.9

    8. The Conjuring- $6.7/ $120.7

    9. Despicable Me 2- $5.7/ $338.2

    10. Grown Ups 2- $3.7/ $123.8

  • Saints Row IV Super Dangerous Wad Wad Edition Is Bat Sh** Crazy

We all know how over the top the Saints Row franchise is. People were wondering how they could possibly do any more than give gamers an actual working dubstep gun, but this is ri-damn-diculous and it is the exact reason why you should love this game.

I give to you the [amazon_link id=”B00BRQN2H4″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Saints Row IV[/amazon_link] Super Dangerous Wad Wad Edition. While you may be used to paying from $80-$150 on your normal collectors editions, this bad boy will set you back the paltry sum of $1 million (cue Dr. Evil finger).

Also, you get to go to space….SPACE. We shit you not.

    1…million…dollars.

The amount of content in this collector’s set runs from the odd (spy training) to the downright fu**ing weird (plastic surgery). I don’t even know if I can list all the items without slowly slipping into a coma thinking of how the guys at Deep Silver/Volition even came up with this. Just read the items above.

I see it going down a bit like this:

    Dr. Boobinshaft: Hello

Volition: Hi Doctor, we are wanting to set up a date for an appontment.

Dr. B: OK, what is your name?

Volition: Oh, it’s not for us. We are giving it away as part of a video game.

Dr. B: Seriously? How do I know if it will be a male or female or what kind of work it will be?

Volition: Well Doc we will go ahead and say that there is an 75-80% it will be a male, possibly lonely, looking for pec implants or dick work.

Saints Row IV releases on August 20th.

  • PS Vitas Only $199 At Target August 18-24th

According to a leaked Target ad, the retailer will be selling both PS Vita sets for $199 during the week of August 18-24th. That is a savings of $50 for the WiFi version and a very helpful $100 off the 3G/WiFi version. Whether this is a Target only sale or the indication of a Vita price cut is not know, but either way if you have been looking for a good time to pick up Sony’s portable this may be it.

I love my Vita and have not regretted buying it once in the year and a half I have had it. The library is ridiculously big and add in the collection of free games when you are a PS Plus member and the value is undeniable.

  • Check Out The Wonderful 101 Nintendo Direct

After watching this 20-minute presentation of [amazon_link id=”B002I08CSW” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Wonderful 101[/amazon_link], I can once again say to Nintendo:

“PLEASE GIVE THE WII U A PRICE DROP! I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME, BUT CAN STILL NOT JUSTIFY $350 FOR THE CONSOLE.”

This video goes very in depth into the core of the gameplay, like how you will save citizens and morph into the varied array of items like a giant fist, sword and whip. This is exactly the type of game that the Wii U needs to get people excited about the system. The only problem is that you need an exclusive game like this to come out every 1-2 months. With Pikmin 3 just coming out and The Wonderful 101 in September they are the first significant releases for the system in over 6 months.

The Wonderful 101 releases on September 15th.

All Wii U complaints aside, hot damn does this game look fun!
