First the Xbox One commercial that managed to do a great job of showing off what is great about the system and now a useful demo using the Xbox One dashboard? Who is in charge of the marketing department now Microsoft? They deserve a raise.
If you are getting an [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVMI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Xbox One[/amazon_link] on November 22nd this is a great video to get ready for the new Xbox Dashboard. I am actually grateful for having a Windows Phone for the past year because it is basically Windows 8 on the Xbox One so I already will feel right at home.
And as far as being able to upload commentary videos with our captured game footage? I hope some of my Xbox Live friends are prepared for some videos with less than appealing clothing…or lack thereof.
First off, don’t expect any Spartacus levels of blood here. It is a television ad but it does do a good job of showing off the ferocity of battle. The transition to in-game footage near the end is almost seamless and it took me a second or two to realize it had switched over.
Pretty game is pretty.

As an added bonus take a look at the video below which shows the crafting of the real armor and weapons based on the game.
Exclusives are nothing new to the game industry, but recent years have seen developers and publishers opting for time-limited exclusivity contracts: A title – or even extra content – starts out on only one system, but eventually moves to all platforms. When Titanfall showed up with only Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC versions announce, everyone assumed the PlayStation 4 version would show up in time.
According to recent press, however, the first game from Respawn Entertainment – made up largely of veteran Call of Duty developers from Infinity Ward – will bring it’s high-octane mech-driven action to Microsoft platforms only, forever and always. The developer cites Microsoft’s cloud and dedicated server support as essential to having the game run correctly.
According to Jon Shiring, an engineer for the developer, ““Microsoft realized that player-hosted servers are actually holding back online gaming and that this is something that they could help solve, and ran full-speed with this idea. So they built this powerful system to let us create all sorts of tasks that they will run for us, and it can scale up and down automatically as players come and go.”
This news is a potential game-changer as we approach the launch of each new console, considering the pedigree that Respawn carries. The gameplay footage for Titanfall is arguably the most unique thing to emerge from the ever-growing sea of first-person shooters in recent years. I’ll readily admit that Titanfall holds my interest considerably more than even Bungie’s Destiny, based on what we’ve seen so far.
Personally, I think there was probably also a substantial amount of money involved, techno-babble aside. I agree that Microsoft offers the better option as far as online multiplayer support; “free” games help ease the cost of PlayStation Plus, but they don’t counter Xbox Live’s superiority in letting people play together. While we’ve already seen the footage of “Halo 5,” I think Microsoft understands that they need a franchise that is decidedly Next-Gen; Xbox One needed its Halo: Combat Evolved or Gears of War to set the stage.
Here’s hoping Titanfall delivers come March 14.
UPDATE: Both Respawn and EA have attempted to clarify statements from yesterday, and have possibly succeeded in making it all more convoluted. The main point that seems to keep coming up is that the exclusivity does NOT apply to all future Titanfall titles, as was widely reported; it is only the current title that is guaranteed to Microsoft. This definitely changes things down the line, but doesn’t influence the fact that Microsoft has secured a key piece in swaying people about what console to buy over the next six months.
Where was this thinking earlier this year when Microsoft was shooting themselves in the foot while running on broken glass with their inability to market the Xbox One? They have righted the course since then and this commercial hits all the right notes for the system. Titanfall, Dead Rising 3, Ryse and Forza are represented well and you even have a Zachary Quinto appearance with an woman eerily reminiscent of Penelope Cruz.
Good job Microsoft.

By happy I mean witnessing the zombie apocalypse listening to The Turtles “Happy Together”. If this is actually available in the game’s soundtrack then we may have a winner. Come to think of it, what would your zombie apocalypse soundtrack sound like?

Everything about Titanfall is big. The game itself has had nothing but big talk and big impressions since its announcement at E3. You get to control big mechs called titans and now the collector’s edition is going big also.
Developer Respawn has announced that [amazon_link id=”B00DB9JYFY” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Titanfall[/amazon_link] will release on March 11, 2014 on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
The collector’s edition will feature an 18″ statue of a massive titan on the battlefield with LED lights, a hardcover art book and a schematic of an Atlas titan. It can be yours for only $249.99.
Yeah, you read it right.
I am ready to play Titanfall. It is most likely 30-40% of why I am getting an [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVMI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Xbox One[/amazon_link] but I think we have found the line of what I am willing to pay for a collector’s edition. I will just buy a Wii U or make a car payment.
Despite the internet jokes of QTE’s and middling press, Ryse: Son of Rome remains the next-gen launch title I am most excited for. Maybe it is my need for more Spartacus episodes but that ship has sailed.
Here are two new trailers for Crytek’s [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVMI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Xbox One[/amazon_link] launch title. One tells the story of Ryse’s protagonist Marius Titus and the second tells of the legend of Damocles. Both involve a lot of blood and revenge.

Thing I am excited about with the launch of the Xbox One: Killer Instinct. It is my favorite fighter ever and I am praying that it doesn’t get screwed up.
Thing I want that would make it better: This Killer Instinct FightStick by Mad Catz to complete my teenage years arcade experience.
Why it will not happen: $209.99.
I am pretty sure I could find a KI1 or KI2 arcade cabinet for $500. Screw that.
Killer Instinct releases on November 22nd with the Xbox One. It will be available as a download only title for free with Jago playable to everyone. Characters can be purchased individually or in a package.

Microsoft has announced that the [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVMI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Xbox One[/amazon_link] will be released on November 22nd, one week after the [amazon_link id=”B00CMQTVQO” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Playstation 4[/amazon_link].
The date is also the eighth anniversary of the release of the Xbox 360.
While it will not be beating Sony to store shelves, a one week gap is nothing to be worried about sales wise. They will be just in time for Black Friday which is the most important thing when planning a holiday release.
