I really liked X-Men: Days of Future Past. I thought it successfully brought together both generations of X-Men movies and did the comic movie world a favor by erasing the events of X-Men 3. Even the guys at Honest Trailers admit that it was a fun ride with their newest video.
Like with X-Men comics, it is best to ignore timeline problems. You will just make your head hurt.
I give you the really real, final, last ever trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past. The previous trailer went Al Gore “super cereal” and this one keeps the tone, but adds in a lot of punching, metal lifting and “Kashmir”.
Really, who can say no to that?
Let’s just put all of our cards on the table. I am excited as hell to see this. I am enjoying the trolls pissing and moaning about timeline differences between all of the X-Men movies. Have you read X-Men? It is basically one big orgy of alternate timelines, future babies and Sentinels. So, following the comics…the movie is looking pretty spot on.
Here are the quick hits from the world of movies, TV, video games, online poker, phone chargers, whatever catches our fancy.
Movies
X-Men: Days of Future Past
We showed you the trailer earlier today, here is the latest poster for the super, giant-sized X-movie releasing May 23rd.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Here is the cast of the second Cap movie opening fire on the movie that will open against Cap 3, Batman vs. Superman. Be careful what you wish for.
Wolverine
David James Kelly will write the next Wolverine movie that see James Mangold return to direct and Hugh Jackman as Logan again. I will say again I think this will be Jackman’s last time playing the character. It will release on March 3, 2017.
Music
Gwar
Lead singer, Dave Brockie, has died. He was 50 years old. Gwar just turned 30 and we just want to say R.I.P. to Oderus Urungus.
TV
American Horror Story
The fourth season of the show will be titled American Horror Story: Freak Show confirming that it will indeed have a circus theme. If you thought Precious having sex with a minotaur was weird, you haven’t seen anything yet.
Video Games
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
Wanna spend five minutes seeing if you can spot the differences in the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game? Have at it.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Here are some new shots for Bioware’s next Dragon Age game coming to PS4 and Xbox One this year. Yes, please.
That was my initial reaction to this newest trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past. The first trailer did a good job of showcasing the characters involved, this is the trailer that goes all out and shows why I am excited Bryan Singer is back with the X-Men franchise.
It almost made me forget how Quicksilver looked in those photos. That is a good trailer.
X-Men: Days of Future Past does not release until May 23, 2014 but Bryan Singer dropped a bomb on Twitter revealing the next X movie announcing that X-Men: Apocalypse will release in 2016.
Looks like Days of Future’s Past is going to be the beginning of something bigger if this tweet does indeed confirm that Apocalypse will be coming to the X universe in 2016. When you were growing up reading comics did you ever, truly think that we would ever get a movie based on Days of Future Past or actually have Apocalypse on screen?
One would assume the film would be based on the Age of Apocalypse storyline which had Professor X’s son Legion travel back in time to kill Magneto but kills Xavier instead. This creates an alternate timeline where Magneto takes up his friends crusade of peace. This is when Apocalypse chooses to take over the world.
Bryan Singer is returning to the X-Men franchise in a big way with next year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. The movie takes from Chris Claremont’s classic time travelling story from 1980. In this version it appears Logan is the one doing the time travelling instead of Kitty Pryde. He is sent back to the 70’s by Professor X to convince his disenchanted past self of the threat of Bolivar Trask and the Sentinel army that is being created to wipe out all mutants.
The trailer is a who’s who of characters that have been in previous X-Men movies including new ones like Bishop (FTW). We also get to see Peter Dinklage as the caterpillar mustached Trask. Sadly, there is no Sentinel sighting or Evan Peters as Quicksilver but you don’t want to give away all the goodies on the first trailer.
To put it mildly, this trailer is already better than X-Men 3.
X-Men: Days of Future Past releases on May 23, 2014.
Professor X is on a roll with these X-Men layoffs. First, it was Wolverine and now everyone’s favorite Cajun is taken to task. Is anyone safe in this economy? If it is affecting The X-Men, no one is safe.
Comedian Pete Holmes, whose Funny or Die Batman videos are already stuff of internet legend, is back and this time he is taking on Wolverine’s uselessness as a member of The X-Men. He brings up the most obvious argument of their main villain being able to manipulate metal.
And if you are wondering why it is that Wolverine looks the exact same instead of like the Professor X and Magneto ones from yesterday then you are not the audience the movie is looking for. Luckily, you have a whole year to watch all of the X-Men films (not so much X-Men 3 or Origins) and grab yourself some classic X-Men collections to get yourself ready.
X-Men: Days of Future’s Past releases on May 23, 2014.
Both versions of Professor X and Magneto are featured in the first posters for Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future’s Past. The all-star X-Men movie is based off of Chris Claremont’s classic story and will include almost every X-Men member from the four previous movies (no, I am not counting X-Men Origins: Wolverine).
X-Men: Days of Future’s Past releases on May 23, 2014.
