  • Bioshock Infinite’s First Five Minutes

    83283-bioshock-infinite

“Booker, are you afraid of God?”

“No, but I’m afraid of you.”

And with those two lines Bioshock Infinite should be on every gamers radar.

Irrational has released a video showcasing the first five minutes of their upcoming Bioshock Infinite. It is not too spoilery so don’t worry too much but it does introduce us to lead character Booker DeWitt and what his task is on the floating city of Columbia. I love how the rainy conditions and lighthouse interior kind of mirror the beginning of the original Bioshock.

Bioshock Infinite releases on March 26, 2013.

  • Nintendo TVii Is Up And Running

After a slight delay Nintendo has their TVii feature up and running on the Wii U. All you will have to do is turn on your system and download a new update for the system, answer a few questions about your cable provider and you all set to go. TVii also connects to your Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant accounts.

The best part of all is that Nintendo TVii is completely free.

  • THQ Files For Bankruptcy

THQ has filed for Chapter 11 (the good kind…if there is one) bankruptcy but has also secured a buyer for the company all in one fell swoop.

Look, I am not an expert in bankruptcy laws but the basic setup is that THQ formally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy while letting Clearlake Capital Group LLC offer a 60 million dollar consideration for the company as well as pay their creditors 10 million dollars. By filing Chapter 11, THQ was able to choose essentially who bought the company. After this it all gets really technical and I don’t feel like boning up on bankruptcy laws for this article when all you really want to know is if THQ will still finish and release South Park and Metro: Last Light.

    Yes. Yes they will.

  • Gears Of War Erector Sets Let You Build Sera’s Defense

Gears of War and Erector have joined forces to bring four sets exclusively to Toys R Us stores ranging in price from 20-50 dollars. Shown above is the King Raven helicopter which comprises over 300 pieces and four figures. The other three sets are the Centaur Tank, Armadillo APC and a Battle Set which can be seen below.

I think it’s time to re-discover my kid side when Lincoln Logs and building model Millenium Falcons were the spice of life.

  • New Fuse Trailer Give You Rules To Live By

Insomniac Games, developers of the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series, have released a new trailer for their first multiplatform game, Fuse. In it the leader of the Overstrike 9 team, Dalton, gives you some handy rules to live by in the Fuse universe. The game is still looking a bit on the bland side but I will give Insomniac the benefit of the doubt because they have never really shipped a bad game and I don’t think the company will want their first game on multiple platforms to be sub-par.

    Fuse releases in March 2013.

  • Developers Want Dark Souls 2 To Be “More Accessible”

In the newest issue of Edge Magazine new [amazon_link id=”B006YDPU48″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Dark Souls 2[/amazon_link] directors, Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura, discuss how they intend to make the game instantly ready for new gamers that are not familiar with the first Dark Souls title (i.e. its soul sucking difficulty). I know a lot of Dark Souls fans are afraid that this means the sequel will be dumbed down for the masses and honestly I can’t blame them. Let’s read this quote by Shibuya:

“Accessibility to players who haven’t picked up Dark Souls is definitely a key topic.Right in the beginning when players first pick up the game is something that I will definitely focus on. To not immediately throw them into Dark Souls but provide a good introduction in terms of what the game’s about and how the game should be played.”

“Hopefully that adjustment at the very beginning of the game will help draw in players and get them addicted right away without immediately making players feel rejected by the game system itself.”

Now I admittedly have not played the first Dark Souls but I know of stories of people who have and enjoy the mind-crushing difficulty and as a fan of the Mass Effect series I can say that when reading that statement I can’t help but hear the same words coming from EA and Bioware about Mass Effect 2&3. Mass Effect 1 was a true space opera RPG that dumb down combat, leveling and almost everything else in the name of “accessibility”.

I hope I am wrong Dark Souls fans.

  • Tomb Raider: Guide To Survival Episode 1

Crystal Dynamics has released the first in a series of videos showcasing Lara’s upgradeable skill set and how you will be using the Base Camp feature to add skill points into different categories that will help Laura in her adventure. Watching the first episode of this shows that the developers are trying to make this more than a mere Uncharted clone.

    [amazon_link id=”B004FS8LYK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tomb Raider[/amazon_link] releases on March 5, 2013.
