The final act to The Hangover trilogy is on its way Memorial Day weekend. A new duo of posters have just been released with Heather Graham’s Jade and “baby Carlos” in very familiar eyewear and the second has a very bitter looking King Ralph.

The Hangover Part III releases on May 24th.

The new trailer for The Hangover Part III has surfaced and let’s just all breathe a sigh of relief because it looks like the finale of the trilogy will be taking a different path unlike the second chapter. We finally get an explanation of why Doug (once again) is missing from another Wolfpack adventure.

It seems Chow has stolen a considerable amount of money from John Goodman and he believes Stu, Alan and Phil are the ones to track him down. Now we all know by now the last person you should piss off is Walter Sobchak.

  • Talk About Your Bad Spoiler Alert: A Review of John Dies at the End

    JDAT Poster

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to catch “John Dies at the End” during a Sunday matinee. An indie flick from the creative team that brought us “Bubba Ho-Tep,” this new venture walks that same line between sincere and silly. If you haven’t seen the former, I would suggest it based on Bruce Campbell’s performance alone.

“John Dies”* opens with a creative twist on the old philosophical teaser concerning the persistence of an item’s identity if all of said item’s individual pieces are slowly replaced over time. Also, there’s a zombie. The story itself picks up with the lead character, Dave Wong, meeting with an investigative journalist in a run-down Chinese restaurant. The majority of the events in the film have already transpired, and Dave is recounting them in an effort to get his story “out there.”

The film’s title character is Dave’s best friend and companion in the business of paranormal investigation and extermination. The plot revolves around the duo’s first encounter with the paranormal, and how it led to their current gig: John’s band played a show, the aftermath of which involved black goo, exploding Jamaicans, one-armed girls and topless cat women.

    JDAT Main

The movie feels like “Constantine” and “Evil Dead” had a baby with “The Hangover” as the midwife. Paranormal events and creatures are treated with appropriate weirdness at first, but the tone eventually shifts to a tongue-in-cheek casualness about it all. The effects are cheesy, but get the job done, especially when they’re not trying too hard. Case-in-point: There’s a scene in a trailer where the back room contains an aquarium with some kind of tentacled… thing floating in it. We never get too close, which only serves to heighten the menace.

Dave and John feel like well-established individuals, and the supporting cast gives them a nice ensemble to play off of. Of particular note are Paul Giamatti as Arnie Bloodstone, the reporter and Clancy Brown as Dr. Albert Marconi, a new-aged spiritual guru who is more than he initially appears. My favorite performance was Glynn Turman as a character simply named Detective, a local cop who decides all of this hocus-pocus is just too much for his town.

I won’t beat around the bush: “John Dies at the End” is not for everyone; Hell, the group I saw it with love this sort of thing and even a few of them didn’t get it. There’s also little-to-no chance it will come to a theater near you, meaning you can save that nine bucks and put it toward picking up the home video release instead.

    JDAT Weird

Here’s a quiz: Do you own an “Evil Dead” film, or “Bubba Ho-Tep”? If not, have you at least seen them, and sought afterwards to see them again? If the answer isn’t a hearty yes, I’d pass. Otherwise, I won’t give too much else away, other than to say that at the end, John—

Oh Hangover, you had me at Ave Maria.

The first trailer for The Hangover Part III has The Wolfpack heading to Las Vegas again after the death of Alan’s father and Stu promises to burn it to the ground. There is definitely more gunplay than you’d expect and it seems like the third act may be going to a darker place to find its laughs. You can already tell by watching this trailer that they are going balls out and trying to show fans that this is not going to be a repeat of the first two.

After watching the trailer I think we should rename it Giraffe’s and Loathing in Las Vegas.

  • First Poster For The Hangover Part III

One of the biggest summer movies has been curiously absent from all the poster and trailer hooplah and that is The Hangover Part III. We have seen trailers for Iron Man, Fast & Furious 6 and Man of Steel, but not so much as a peep from the third film involving The Wolfpack.

    Until today.

Warner Bros. has released the first poster which shows Zack Galifianakis as Alan and Ken Jeongs as Mr. Chow in a tense stare down with a burning Las Vegas in the background.

I like this. It is playing up the big summer movie spectacle of explosions and flying debris with odd lighting that is the staple of action movies today. Hopefully the third time will be the charm. While I laughed at the second movie, a second watching proved just how much of a retread of the first flick it was.

The Hangover Part III opens on Memorial Day where it will take on The Rock and Vin Diesel in Fast & Furious 6.

Hitchcock, Satan’s Child And Will Ferrell?

    [amazon_link id=”B008MPQ0G8″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Rosemary’s Baby[/amazon_link]

One of the greatest horror/thriller movies of all time makes its way to Blu-Ray just in time for Halloween. The slow build and tension is what makes this movie so special and is something that is sorely lacking with today’s “horror” films. Take the time to watch and appreciate this classic if you haven’t yet.

    [amazon_link id=”B008DCAG9M” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection[/amazon_link]

The definitive collection of one of the greatest directors of all time. 15 movies including Psycho, North by Northwest, Rear Window, The Birds and more. Each film comes with its own set of special features including alternate endings and production diaries.

    [amazon_link id=”B009CW55XY” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Campaign[/amazon_link]

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis team up for this comedy about an incumbent congressman who runs against a less than likely candidate in North Carolina. I saw the movie in theaters and while it is not as memorable as Talladega Nights, Anchorman or The Hangover it has a few moments and is worth a rent.

    [amazon_link id=”B009GYS73S” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Chuck: The Complete Series[/amazon_link]

I never finished watching Chuck’s run. I am only two seasons in but I will get there eventually. I give props to NBC for letting the series finish out its five season run considering the show never garnered good ratings. Sometimes network do listen to fans. If you haven’t watch Chuck you are in for as treat and could do a lot worse on TV today.
