Final Fantasy XV is still being made. Square wants you to know this since they brought a shiny new trailer to TGS. Watching it I couldn’t help but be amazed at how beautiful it was and the combat looks to be in real-time. Let’s hope that it won’t take 15 hours to get interesting like Final Fantasy XIII.
There is no release date because, Final Fantasy. I think Square just shows us new stuff to prove they are not going full Last Guardian even though the game has been in development since 2006 when it was announced as Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
If I can hit a chocobo with a car, the wait will be worth it.
If you watched the VGX’s this past Saturday I am sorry. You really should have just skipped it and watched all of the trailers after the “awards” show was over. I luckily did this and avoided what was, by all accounts, the worst thing to happen to video games since E.T. on Atari 2600.
It is weird that among all the new games shown that an already released game will be my first buy of the new year. Square confirmed that they are releasing this past spring’s amazing Tomb Raider on Xbox One and PS4. Titled Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition the game will include all of the DLC and the game’s graphics have been given a boost for the next generation systems. The most noticeable is that Laura’s appearance has been redone so that she more resembles her voice actress Camilla Luddington (giggity).
Tomb Raider was one of my favorite games of 2013 and will certainly appear on my “best of” list in a few weeks. I am normally not for double dipping but I will take the time to play through it again even if it is only a bit prettier.
Master thief Garrett is back in a new gameplay trailer for Thief. The game is looking quite moody and beautiful and hopefully can keep the legacy of the Thief franchise going. It is being developed by Eidos and published by Square, so if it sells 3 million copies, Square will call it a disappointment.
Well that previous post about being a little light on the Thief news besides the box art just got tossed out the window. Thanks Obama.
Square Enix has just announced that Thief will release on February 25, 2014 for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3. Below is a brand, spanking new trailer from Gamescom. In it, protagonist Garrett is giving a voiceover as he does his thievery thing and civil unrest begins to take a hold of the city.
It is now official, we will see more of Lara Croft.
Really there was little doubt after this year’s [amazon_link id=”B004FS8LYK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tomb Raider[/amazon_link] reboot garnered great reviews and sold extremely well despite the fact Square complained about the sales numbers. It must be hard for them to admit that their western arm is the only thing keeping their company afloat.
CEO Phil Rogers has sent out an open letter confirming the sequel is already in development for next-gen consoles.
“I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently.”
The game was loved by everyone here as we did a dual review for the game and both reviews agreed upon an 8.5. Even as I played the game, I remember being excited about what the development team could do with next generation hardware and I am glad we will get a chance to see.
Darrell Gallagher, head of product development at Square spoke on giving fans even more the second time around:
“It’s still early days, so I’m afraid I can’t provide any further details for now save my assurance that we’re not resting on our laurels and acclaim from Tomb Raider’s recent successes, but working hard to raise the bar even higher and re-affirm the faith you’ve shown.”
Square Enix is the company that doesn’t realize they aren’t as big a player as they used to be. They basically owned the 90’s, but have been losing relevance and money for the last dozen years. So it kind of made me sick this morning when I read that they are complaining about weak sales for two huge games.
Tomb Raider is projected to sell 3.4 million copies and Hitman: Absolution is projected to hit 3.6 million by March 31st.
Here is my beef. What in the blue hell were Square’s projections of these games??? Hitman had a long break in between entries and I even wondered if people still cared enough to buy another game starring Agent 47. Well 3.6 million people did apparently. And Tomb Raider is the one that is truly getting under my skin. The game has “weak” sales with 3.4 million copies…..in 26 days!!! The game just released on March 5th and Square is bitching about over 3 million copies sold. 97% of games would kill for games like that with the 3% being disappointed consisting of Call of Duty, GTA and Halo.
This is one of the problems in today’s video game world. You can project a game to sell 6 million copies, but here is the thing publishers, and I will say it slow for you.
Not. Every. Game. Can. Be. Call. Of. Duty.
Maybe if you stopped wasting every red cent you had on useless ass Final Fantasy ports for every damn system and phone imaginable, you wouldn’t not have to up your projections so high for every other game to cover your inability to handle your own finances.
Even [amazon_link id=”B0076ZQSFI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Sleeping Dogs[/amazon_link], which I fully credit Square with saving from death, was considered a disappointment with 1.5 million copies sold. A new IP (even if it did start as a True Crime game) that has sold over a million copies used to be considered a success.
Now don’t get me wrong, I understand game development costs are also way higher than they used to be, but I can not accept that a game that has sold over 3 million copies in just 26 days is already considered a disappointment by Square’s standards. At this point the company should be kissing Crystal Dynamic’s ass.
Be sure and read our review for Sleeping Dogs and our dual review for Tomb Raider here and here.
We here at Nerd Rating are in the middle of [amazon_link id=”B00A7QA0XE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tomb Raider[/amazon_link] fever. We just put up our first review of the reboot handled by Mr. Trey Sterling and my review should be along any day now.
Today, Square has released some fun number facts about Lara’s reboot adventure. Let’s take a look:
– 13,742,891 close calls
-11,067,764 enemies dodged
-147,675,058 enemies killed with a bow
-20,601,083 enemies killed with fire arrows
-356,988,302 arrows looted off of fallen enemies
-5,294,879 deers hunted
-1,417,750 crabs hunted
-3,570,956 tombs raided
I know these number are really inconsequential, but I am a nerd for useless facts like this. I am glad to know that I was not the only one murdering helpless crabs left and right just to gain the tiny bit of salvage to max everything out. I am sitting on 98% completion and I will not be denied!!
We are less than a week away from the release of Tomb Raider and Crystal Dynamics and Square are in full-on promotion mode with commercials everywhere you look. Now they have released a new trailer for the game titled “Reborn”. In it footage is shown from the game while many different people name off their strengths as Lara Croft. The stand out in the trailer has to be music which I can only hope is from the soundtrack because it is quite goosebump inducing.
[amazon_link id=”B004FS8LYK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tomb Raider[/amazon_link] releases on March 5th.
We are only one day removed from Sony’s announcement of the Playstation 4 and still months away from E3 and already the console has a modest, but very good lineup of games. Ubisoft, Sucker Punch, Guerrilla and even Square showed their future titles and it was enough to get this gamer excited for this fall when the PS4 comes home. Here are the games we know of so far:
Killzone: Shadow Fall (Guerrilla)
Infamous: Second Son (Sucker Punch)
Watch Dogs (Ubisoft)
Knack (Studio Japan)
Diablo 3 (Blizzard)
Drive Club (Evolution)
Final Fantasy (Square)
Destiny (Bungie)
The Witness (Thekla)
Deep Down (Capcom)
The Witcher 3 (CD Projekt RED)
Sony also said that a plethora of studios are already pledging support for the PS4. Instead of listing them all check out a screenshot of last night’s event and see that every major player is going to be involved with developing for the next Playstation.
Square has a new IP coming next year and it is called Murdered: Soul Suspect. There have been a number of teaser images with mysterious text on them, but now we get to see a short trailer which has a man, most likely our protagonist, leaping from a window as he attempts to shoot at someone. Without knowing fact one about this game I am going to assume it is about a detective who gets murdered and comes back and tries to solve his own death and has spiritual powers or something to that nature.
Plus, it is Square so it is probably being written by Japanese writers who have no idea how ridiculous their script will sound in English.
Murdered: Soul Suspect will be released in early 2014.
