  • Star Trek 3: Shat Happens?

    Spock_and_Kirk,_1986

Star Trek 3 writer and director Roberto Orci is wanting to bring back William Shatner for a part in the third revamped Trek film. The original Capt. James T. Kirk was supposed to have a cameo in the J.J. Abrams 2009 reboot, but was cut which led to Shatner doing his Shatner thing and getting pissed.

Orci’s script has a scene which reunites Leonard Nimoy’s Spock and Kirk, whether it will really happen is anyone’s guess. I am of the thought that you can not have enough Shatner (of which I might be the minority).

With Star Trek 3 releasing in 2016 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original series it would be a nice callback to the show’s history. Just keep Nichelle Nichols away from ever doing this again.

I think even Dr. Sheldon Cooper, who famously said, “suck it, Zachary Quinto”, would approve of this commercial from Audi starring Leonard Nimoy and his alternate reality counterpart.

There are many things in life that make me happy: football, caramel apple empanadas, Far Cry and now, this.

This is Super Bowl worthy and not in the “I wish that was better” sort of way, but the “Betty White playing mud football with Abe Vigoda” sort of way.

  • Screenwriter Damon Lindelof Discusses Star Trek Into Darkness Villain Secrecy

In an interview with the L.A. Times Hero Complex, Damon Lindelof gave the reason why he thinks it is so important that audiences stay in the dark about who exactly Benedict Cumberbatch is playing in this summer’s Star Trek Into Darkness.

“The audience needs to have the same experience that the crew is having. You’re Kirk, you’re Spock, you’re McCoy, so if they don’t know who the bad guy is going to be in the movie, then you shouldn’t know. It’s not just keeping the secret for secrecy’s sake. It’s not giving the audience information that the characters don’t have.”

Well you certainly can’t fault him for that reasoning. I think many people are assuming that Cumberbatch will be playing Khan and I am certainly one of those. I am afraid that some have made such a huge deal out of this that no matter who he ends up being they will be disappointed. If he is Khan, you will have the Ricardo Montalban bandwagon crying foul and if he is a new villain, you will have a group that is pissed off that there Khan guess was wrong.

I applaud the studio and actors for being able to keep the role a secret for this long. Mystery is the spice of life. Or is that cumin?

  • New Star Trek: The Video Game Gameplay Trailer

Not a whole lot has been shown of Star Trek: The Video Game beyond a handful of screenshots since last year, but now with the game’s April release looming Digital Extremes is beginning to take the wraps off of their licensed title.

The game looks to mix a lot of different game styles together. The shooting sequences are close behind the shoulder type run and gun like Dead Space or Resident Evil while there appears to be some small exploration element like Uncharted or Tomb Raider and you even get to control the Enterprise in space battles. Hopefully all of this can come together and deliver a good movie tie-in game (for once).
