Super Bowl weekend is routinely a bad weekend at the box office. Of course, if people knew what kind of boring game they were in store for last night they might have went to see a movie instead of buying lots of food and sitting through four hours of a bird raping a horse.

Ride Along won the top spot for the third week in a row with only $12.2 million. The rest of the top ten shook out like previous weeks with Forzen, The Nut Job and Lone Survivor trailing. That Awkward Moment finished in third with $9 million. Still, if you are Zac Efron you have to feel good about yourself that there are $9 million worth of people that want to see your naked ass.

    1. Ride Along- $12.2 million/ $92.9 million

    2. Frozen- $9.3/ $360.0

    3. That Awkward Moment- $9.0/ $9.0

    4. The Nut Job- $7.6/ $50.2

    5. Lone Survivor- $7.1/ $104.8

    6. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit- $5.4/ $38.9

    7. Labor Day- $5.3/ $5.3

People decided to ride along with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube again this weekend. Before you judge me for that horrible beginning please be gentle. It is early and I have no excuse for it.

After setting the record for biggest January opening, Ride Along easily kept the top spot with $21.1 million with January’s other big story, Lone Survivor, poised to cross $100 million next week.

There was only one new release this week. I, Frankenstein could not even keep up with the horrid first week of The Legend of Hercules only bringing in $8.2 million. Both of those movies were released by Lionsgate, although I am sure the studio is not worried as they sit on the mound of cash from The Hunger Games franchise.

    1. Ride Along- $21.1 million/ $75.4 million

    2. Lone Survivor- $12.6/ $93.6

    3. The Nut Job- $12.3/ $40.2

    4. Frozen- $9.0/ $347.8

    5. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit- $8.8/ $30.1

    6. I, Frankenstein- $8.2/ $8.2

    7. American Hustle- $7.1/ $127.0

    8. August: Osage County- $5.0/ $26.5

    9. The Wolf of Wall Street- $5.0/ $98.0

    10. Devil’s Due- $2.7/ $12.8

January is no longer becoming a month for Hollywood to dump its leftovers. After Lone Survivor had the second biggest January opening ever, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart decided to one-up them. Their buddy flick, Ride Along, brought in a staggering $41.2 million, doubling the studio expectations making it the biggest January opening ever. You can expect a sequel to this (presumably called Next Ride Along followed by After Next Ride Along) before you know it.

Jack Ryan’s return to theaters was not what the character is used to. Shadow Recruit could only manage $17.2 million, only half of the opening gross for The Sum of All Fears 11 years ago. The movie only had a budget of $60 million so it may be able to break even with worldwide totals when all is said and done.

    1. Ride Along- $41.2 million/ $41.2 million

    2. Lone Survivor- $23.2/ $74.0

    3. The Nut Job- $20.5/ $20.5

    4. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit- $17.2/ $17.2

    5. Frozen- $11.9/ $332.6

    6. American Hustle- $10.6/ $116.4

    7. Devil’s Due- $8.5/ $8.5

    8. August: Osage County- $7.5/ $18.1

    9. The Wolf of Wall Street- $7.5/ $90.2

    10. Saving Mr. Banks- $4.1/ $75.3
