Insomniac Games, developers of the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series, have released a new trailer for their first multiplatform game, Fuse. In it the leader of the Overstrike 9 team, Dalton, gives you some handy rules to live by in the Fuse universe. The game is still looking a bit on the bland side but I will give Insomniac the benefit of the doubt because they have never really shipped a bad game and I don’t think the company will want their first game on multiple platforms to be sub-par.
In the newest issue of Edge Magazine new [amazon_link id=”B006YDPU48″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Dark Souls 2[/amazon_link] directors, Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura, discuss how they intend to make the game instantly ready for new gamers that are not familiar with the first Dark Souls title (i.e. its soul sucking difficulty). I know a lot of Dark Souls fans are afraid that this means the sequel will be dumbed down for the masses and honestly I can’t blame them. Let’s read this quote by Shibuya:
“Accessibility to players who haven’t picked up Dark Souls is definitely a key topic.Right in the beginning when players first pick up the game is something that I will definitely focus on. To not immediately throw them into Dark Souls but provide a good introduction in terms of what the game’s about and how the game should be played.”
“Hopefully that adjustment at the very beginning of the game will help draw in players and get them addicted right away without immediately making players feel rejected by the game system itself.”
Now I admittedly have not played the first Dark Souls but I know of stories of people who have and enjoy the mind-crushing difficulty and as a fan of the Mass Effect series I can say that when reading that statement I can’t help but hear the same words coming from EA and Bioware about Mass Effect 2&3. Mass Effect 1 was a true space opera RPG that dumb down combat, leveling and almost everything else in the name of “accessibility”.
Crystal Dynamics has released the first in a series of videos showcasing Lara’s upgradeable skill set and how you will be using the Base Camp feature to add skill points into different categories that will help Laura in her adventure. Watching the first episode of this shows that the developers are trying to make this more than a mere Uncharted clone.
[amazon_link id=”B004FS8LYK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tomb Raider[/amazon_link] releases on March 5, 2013.
A new video for The Last of Us has been released and it shows the transformation of Annie Wersching into the newest character revealed for the game, Tess, through motion capture. This scene shown is from the new trailer that was shown at the VGA’s which has Joel and Tess in a heated argument.
Why must this game keep teasing me with this beautiful Lara Croft action?!! Crystal Dynamics reboot of the series continues to impress with every new bit of video shown. Tomb Raider begat Uncharted and now Uncharted has begat the Tomb Raider reboot.
Don’t ever say that game developers refuse to listen to their fans. After Bioshock Infinite’s box art was met with less than enthusiastic results it seems Ken Levine has given fans a choice for an alternate cover. The cover will be reversible so you can choose between the original and whichever other choice is voted in by fans. There are six designs to choose from. Make your voice heard.
It takes a lot for a game to make me put a new Gears of War on the back burner but Naughty Dog’s [amazon_link id=”B007CM0K86″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Last of Us[/amazon_link] is doing just that. It is easily my most looked forward to game of next year and the biggest question of all was finally answered at Spike VGA’s this past weekend.
When is the thing coming out?
Luckily it won’t be too much longer. The Last of Us is set for release on May 7, 2013 which puts it at the perfect time when I should be done with the plethora of games coming out in the spring.
Naughty Dog also detailed the pre-order bonuses that you will receive when you pick up your copy next May. Officially called the Sights and Sounds Pack, gamers that pre-order will receive the game’s soundtrack, PS3 background theme and two avatars for your PSN profile (winter Joel and winter Ellie).
One piece of news that caught some off guard was the fact that there will be a multiplayer component to the game. Naughty Dog did not give any specifics into the multiplayer but did say that pre-orders would also receive the Survival Pack for the mysterious section of the game. Extras include a melee attack booster, extra in-game cash, bonus XP, special character items and two special characters skins for Joel and Ellie after completion of the single-player game.
Last but certainly not least is the new trailer that debuted at the VGA’s. It gives us a good look (so far) of the infected population. Mostly until now most of the gameplay has shown off Joel and Ellie fighting off non-infected humans as they try to survive. Take a look at the new trailer below and let us know if you are looking forward to the game as much as I am.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. [amazon_link id=”B003O6E6NE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Bioshock Infinite[/amazon_link] has been delayed.
The game will see a one month delay and release on March 26, 2013, so it is leaving a crowded February for a crowded March. March 2013 will already see the releases of Tomb Raider, God of War: Ascension and Gears of War: Judgment.
Irrational Games Ken Levine made the announcement citing that they could ship the game in February but it wouldn’t hurt to take a few more weeks and do more bug testing to make sure the game is what the fans deserve.
“I knew I’d probably get beat up in the press a little bit about it, but at the end of the day, if it’s going to make a better game, we’ll do it.”
I personally have been waiting for three years on this game so another month will be no problem especially if it makes it better.
EA has released details on their next PGA game, [amazon_link id=”B00A7QA0Q6″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14[/amazon_link], revealing that like previous years there will be a standard and collector’s editions that will feature a different set of cover stars.
The standard edition features Tiger Woods along with legendary golfer Arnold Palmer while the aptly named [amazon_link id=”B00A7Q9ZQM” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Masters Historic Edition[/amazon_link] has last year’s Masters winner Bubba Watson paired with the greatest amateur to ever play the sport and co-founder of The Masters tournament, Bobby Jones.
The Masters Historic Edition will feature five additional courses including the par 3 course at Augusta and the course as it appeared in 1934. Bobby Jones also helped design the historic course.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 will release on March 31, 2013.
EA has announced that [amazon_link id=”B0050SY77E” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Crysis 3[/amazon_link] will release on February 19th for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. Everyone should prepare accordingly meaning if you own an Xbox 360 or PS3 you should pre-order the game and if you own a PC it means it is time to buy a new video card or PC altogether.
People that pre-order the game will receive extra weapons available in multiplayer, a level 5 upgrade and a digital copy of the first Crysis game.
This release date give Crysis a rather slim one-week window before the video game floodgates open on February 26th with Bioshock Infinite. After that it only gets more crowded.
