More Lego goodness is always a good thing. Lego The Hobbit is making its way to consoles next year and will be based on the first two films in the trilogy. Why? Hell if I know. I will still buy it because I loved Lego Lord of the Rings.

The Hobbit Extended Cut Amazon Exclusive Edition
I’m lucky enough to have snagged the “special” versions of each Lord of the rings extended cut, each of which came with a bonus DVD and some form of statuary. That being the case, I’ve been expectantly waiting to see if the extended version of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey would get the same treatment. My patience has been rewarded in the form of the [amazon_link id=”B00E9HML1Q” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]exclusive Amazon edition [/amazon_link]of the film. The linked edition includes the 3D blu-ray version; there is a non-3D version available for $10 less. All versions of the extended cut will be released November 5th.

A Scientifically Accurate Retelling of Lord of the Rings
Photo courtesy of motywdrogi.pl Now this may not be news to everyone, but it’s definitely exciting for me. I’ve never read the Lord of the Rings trilogy — I’ve heard too many complaints about its structure and detail and painstakingly slow progress. As such, I’m satisfied with the movies alone.
However, apparently one man, Russian scientist Kirill Yeskov, believed that the books were poorly written — not because of their length and detail, but because of their lack of detail. According to him, “Middle Earth has several built-in physical defects” in its interpretation of nature, such as improper considerations for continent structure and solar system activity. He even criticizes more basic concepts like the fact that Tolkien never discussed the monetary systems of the various societies.
In this translated essay, Dr. Yeskov discusses the reasons for his criticism, as well as his ultimate (and successful) goal: to retell the story in a more realistic and scientifically accurate manner, with an entirely new book, titled The Last Ring-Bearer. “It is of a dual nature,” Yeskov says, “I bow before Demiurge Tolkien who had created an amazing Universe, but am rather cool toward Tolkien the Storyteller, author of the tale of four Hobbits and their quest.”
A translated version of Yeskov’s book can be downloaded for free here. I do not plan to read it since I do not even have an original reading of Tolkien’s text to compare it to, but I am interested to know how his story varies. I, for one, never considered the scientific implications of Middle Earth; I simply enjoyed the franchise for what it appeared to be. In my experience, I have learned that criticism and speculation are often more harmful than beneficial — if you look at the details too closely, you lose the big picture altogether (as well as your enjoyment of it). But I nonetheless find Yeskov’s argument interesting and new, and so I am intrigued.

Xbox 360 Version Of Lego The Lord Of The Rings Shipped With Demo Discs
It seems today is not a good day to buy new games because here is our second big mistake of the day.
Earlier we told you about PC copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 shipping with Mass Effect 2 discs now reports are that the Xbox 360 version of Lego The Lord of the Rings were shipped with demo discs instead of the actual game. The disc is marked “Not For Sale” on the front. Calls to our local Gamestops have not seen any problems but there are some other stores in other cities that have pulled the game off the shelves altogether.
WB Games has said that they are aware of the situation and are taking measures to correct it. Until then, just be sure and check your game before leaving the store.

New Game Releases. October 30, 2012.
Assassin’s Creed and WWE Lead The Biggest Week Of The Year (So Far).
[amazon_link id=”B0050SYLRK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Assassin’s Creed 3[/amazon_link] (360, PS3) $59.99
Besides Halo 4 this is arguably the biggest release of the year. Every bit of the game has wowed anyone that has seen it and the anticipation has been at a fever pitch for months. Finally moving out of the Ezio era and bringing the American Revolution to the forefront looks like it will really pay off for the franchise.
[amazon_link id=”B0085L2T0A” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]WWE 13[/amazon_link] (360, PS3, Wii) $49.99-59.99
Last year’s game saw a complete change in the control scheme and physics engine so how do you possibly keep it fresh? By celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Attitude Era with its own storyline set as well as having Attitude Era stars on the roster. Don’t like your WWE programming PG? THQ may have the answer by looking to the past.
[amazon_link id=”B0050SWTAQ” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Need For Speed: Most Wanted[/amazon_link] (360, PS3, PC, Vita) $39.99-59.99
My favorite racing series of all time is Burnout. So when it was announced that the guys at Criterion would be releasing the next Need For Speed game you can imagine my excitement. The real wonder of this release is how they managed to fit the entire game, as in every mode, into the Vita. Nice job Criterion.
[amazon_link id=”B0088MVOUC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Lego Lord of the Rings[/amazon_link] (360, PS3, Wii, PC, Vita, 3DS, DS) $29.99-49.99
Lego Batman 2 was released earlier this year to good reviews as well as being the first Lego game to feature voice acting. Now Lego Lord of the Rings is here and features actual dialogue from all three movies as well as Lego’s own unique humor mixed in. Co-op play are back as with any Lego game as well as tons of hidden goodies and unlockable characters.
[amazon_link id=”B007BJNR6C” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation[/amazon_link] (Vita) $39.99
This Vita only adventure follows a new assassin, Aveline, as she tries to decipher a Templar plan in New Orleans during the years of the American Revolution. I still have to wonder why they would release the game on the same day as Assassin’s Creed 3. Most people won’t have the money for both and releasing apart from the main game may actually sell a few Vita’s. Sony….that is all.
Next week is a bit lighter on the releases with everyone getting out of the way of Master Chief’s return. That’s right, it’s finally time for Halo 4.
Happy gaming!!!!
