It appears that Bilbo, Gandalf and company have been scared off by the X-Men.

Warner Bros. have delayed Peter Jackson’s third (necessary?) film of The Hobbit from July 18, 2014 to December 17, 2014. The July date was also the opening of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future’s Past which is turning into way more than just a sequel to First Class. It is becoming an X-Men all-star movie starring almost every character from the entire franchise.

With The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey closing in on one billion dollars, the move to December should not hurt its box office, even taking it out of a prime summer slot. As of right now the third Hobbit movie will open up in December 2014 unopposed. Much better than fighting with Professor X for moviegoers wallets.

  • Ellen Page, Anna Paquin And Shawn Ashmore Are X-Men Again

So can we now officially say that Bryan Singer is making the biggest X-Men movie ever? The director already has the returning cast of X-Men: First Class, including Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence as well as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Hugh Jackman reprising their roles. Singer has just announced that three more X-movie alumni are returning for X-Men: Days of Future’s Past.

Ellen Page, Anna Paquin and Shawn Ashmore will be donning their suits once again as Kitty Pryde, Rogue and Iceman. All we need now is for Tyler Mane and Liev Schreiber to have a celebrity deathmatch to see which one gets to play Sabretooth and let’s not forget that Vinnie Jones is only a phone call away to play Juggernaut again.

X-Men: Days of Future’s Past is based on Chris Claremont’s legendary 1981 story where the X-Men have to stop a future event from happening that causes mutants to be kept prisoners in a dystopian future. It is set for release on July 18, 2014.

  • Hugh Jackman May Join X-Men: Days Of Future’s Past

Well now it seems like X-Men: Days of Future’s Past is becoming the biggest movie the franchise has ever attempted. News is today that Hugh Jackman is now in talks to play Wolverine in Bryan Singer’s follow-up to 2011’s X-Men: First Class. Jackman had a small (and hilarious) cameo in the movie and looks to be ready to join the X-team once again.

Filming is already done on The Wolverine which will see Jackman’s Logan make his way to Japan and has some quality beat em up time with the likes of Viper and Silver Samurai. Oddly enough the Wolverine/Japan storyline was written by Chris Claremont, who is the well at which the X-Men movie franchise drinks from. Not only is The Wolverine and Days of Future’s Past based on his comics but X2 is loosely based off of his graphic novel God Loves, Man Kills.

Yesterday came the news that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan were returning as Professor X and Magneto, now it seems like Days of Future’s Past is more than just a follow-up to First Class but a full blown prequel/sequel to every X movie out there.

The Wolverine releases on July 26, 2013 and X-Men: Days of Future’s Past will arrive on July 18, 2014.
