Crystal Dynamics is putting the finishing touches on their reboot of Tomb Raider and today they showed off a new video with eleven  minutes of gameplay. The footage shows some of what we have already seen in snippets from previous looks including Lara’s ride down the rapids and parachuting out of the collapsed airplane. We do get to see Lara’s first interaction with a shanty town as well as the cover system for the game and multiple pathways in certain areas.

  • Waiting On That Tomb Raider Demo? Keep Waiting.

    tomb-raider-delay

Crystal Dynamics has announced that there will be no demo released for the upcoming reboot of [amazon_link id=”B004FS8LYK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tomb Raider[/amazon_link], saying that they did not want to spoil the story in any way and also did not want players to start the game and have a week or so break before having to pick it back up. Seems logical especially given how long we have been waiting on this game, holding off an extra week to get the full version should not bother anyone (except your hardcore trolls).

Also bucking with a recent industry trend is the fact that the game will not offer any kind of season or online pass for it’s downloadable content. This has become the norm for many big titles to offer a $20 or $30 package right at release that includes all future DLC in one package. To me, this says that they may not have a whole lot of DLC planned to justify a $30 charge.

  • Why Should Tomb Raider Be A Must Buy?

    tombraider

March 5th is almost here and with that will see the rebirth of video game icon Lara Croft. Crystal Dynamics has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on [amazon_link id=”B004FS8LYK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tomb Raider[/amazon_link] which sees Lara crash land on a tropical island and serves as her first adventure as we see the events that begin to shape the hardened character we know from previous installments.

The developer has been good to show off a lot of the process in making the game through a series of videos titled The Final Hours of Tomb Raider. They have been coming out every few months with the fourth installment being released this week. Hosted by Zachary Levi, (Chuck, Thor: The Dark World) the series focuses on many aspects of the development process including the motion capture process and the emotional tole the role has taken on actress Camilla Ludington. The second video shows the makers as they bring the game to the public for the first time in playable form at last year’s San Diego Comic Con. Next, you get a listen to how the game’s score came together complete with the fabrication of a brand new “instrument” made just for the unique sounds you will hear in the soundtrack.

A big announcement came when the fourth video in the series released this week with the addition of multiplayer for the first time ever in the Tomb Raider series. It is being developed by a completely separate team at Eidos Montreal. Please don’t think that this is just some tacked on multiplayer element. Teams will be using every bit of the terrain that is available including climbing walls with Lara’s climbing tool as well as being able to set booby traps for your opponents like fake ammunition crates that explode and snare traps. Zachary Levi is even a playable character so you can fulfill all of your Chuck video game fantasies (or is that just me?).

Catch up on the series below and we will keep you filled in with more [amazon_link id=”B004FSE52C” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tomb Raider[/amazon_link] as March 5th draws near.

  • Tomb Raider: Guide To Survival Episode 1

Crystal Dynamics has released the first in a series of videos showcasing Lara’s upgradeable skill set and how you will be using the Base Camp feature to add skill points into different categories that will help Laura in her adventure. Watching the first episode of this shows that the developers are trying to make this more than a mere Uncharted clone.

    [amazon_link id=”B004FS8LYK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tomb Raider[/amazon_link] releases on March 5, 2013.

  • Tomb Raider Collector’s Edition Announced

Have A Look At Lara’s Goodies.

Today Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics announced their collector’s edition for next year’s highly anticipated reboot of Tomb Raider. It will retail for $99.99 and release on March 5th. Square has said that quantities will be limited thus the “collector’s” stamp (hmmm….not so sure).

The collection will include the following:

    – 8″ Play Arts Kai Lara Croft figure (hopefully it will not look like a** like their Mass Effect Commander Shepard)

    – Three iron-on patches that represent three of the achievements in the game

    – A 5″x7″ lithograph of Lara Croft

    – A 15″x19″ map of Yamati Island, the island on which Lara is shipwrecked

    – “Weapons Pack” DLC which gives Lara extra weapons for in-game use

    – A 10 track CD soundtrack from the game

What say all of you? Is this worth the bump up in price to $100?
