  • PETA Has A Problem With Whaling In Assassin’s Creed IV

PETA has spoken out against the act of whaling in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. In an interview with Polygon, Matt Bruce, PETA’s Bullsh** Job Title  International Grassroots Campaigns spokesperson said this about the virtual portrayal of whaling.

“There are so many creative minds at Ubisoft that are involved with the Assassin’s Creed series, that we find it really disappointing that they feel the need to glorify whaling. PETA encourages video game companies to create games that celebrate animals, not games that promote hurting and killing them.”

He went on to tell what we as gamers will specifically feel when this senseless killing of a fake, virtual creature happens.

“In Assassin’s Creed 4, you get ahead by killing. Joe Shmoe who plays this game in his mother’s basement in the safety and comfort of his home will feel a sense of accomplishment by killing this whale.”

If you want to read Ubisoft’s response to PETA just hit the link above for the entire article. Here is mine.

Will I feel a sense of accomplishment for killing a whale in Assassin’s Creed IV? You’re damn right I will! If there was an achievement for killing 30 whales and selling their fat to Indians for a bunch of blankets and native girls to have on my pirate ship, then get ready, cause I am about to get 30 more points added to my gamerscore!!!

Or better yet I want to be able to hang their blubbery heads on the front of my ship as an announcement to all the other virtual whales swimming in the virtual sea of this VIDEO GAME that I am a pirate not to be f&!%* with.

LET’S KILL SOME WHALES!!!!! (fake ones I mean)

  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Box Art Revealed

The worst kept video game secret of the past few weeks is official. Assassin’s Creed’s next installment will indeed have a pirate theme and apparently try to see how many weapons one man can have on his person at one time.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is the next chapter in the AC saga and will star Edward Kenway, who is father of Haytham and dear old grandad to Connor from Assassin’s Creed 3. It now seems likely the naval battles from AC3 were a testing ground to see if a whole game could be set around them. Let’s just hope you don’t spend the first six hours of the game as another character that is not on the cover.

As with past Assassin’s Creed installments, it was announced that the Playstation would be receiving extra content totaling about an extra hour of gameplay.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag releases this fall.

  • Has Assassin’s Creed IV Leaked Already?

Oops. Seems like Kotaku may have uncovered a bit of spoilery news pertaining to the next game in the Assassin’s Creed series.

A picture they have posted show a promotional poster for Assassin’s Creed IV: Blag Flag which has a pirate themed assassin which matches up with some of the earlier rumors which suggested that theme and would be taking place in the Caribbean. So for those of you that the naval battles were your favorite part of [amazon_link id=”B0050SXFKE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Assassin’s Creed 3[/amazon_link] this will be happy news if this proves to be true.

Now if the guys at Ubisoft were promotional wizards they would combine this game with ads for Black Flag bug spray.

  • New Assassin’s Creed Coming, Will Focus On New Character And Time Period

In news that should surprise absolutely no one, Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot announced that a new Assassin’s Creed game would be coming in fiscal year 2014, which might as well mean November 2013 like with every AC game.

He went on to say that the story would involve a completely new character and take place in a new time period as well as represent a giant leap forward for the franchise. It will be developed by a new team as well so hopefully they will figure out that a game that focuses so much on parkour action should actually be able to control the parkour moves well. One can hope.

Where do you think the next Assassin’s Creed will go? Will they stick with a different point of American history or go different like a samurai story? Hmm.

  • Sony Reports Good Playstation 3 And Vita Sales To Start The Holiday

Sony has announced today that over 525,000 Playstation 3 consoles and 160,000 Vita’s were sold over the week of Black Friday. The Playstation 3 bundles saw a 15% increase over the same time last year and the Vita sales has the handheld off to a good start in it’s first holiday season.

Sony definitely upped its game this season with a number of different bundles available for both systems including a Playstation 3 w/ Infamous 1&2 and Uncharted 1&2. The Vita had numerous bundles including games like Call of Duty: Black Ops, Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation and Lego Batman 2.

  • Splinter Cell Movie Finds Its Sam Fisher

While the Splinter Cell movie may not have a studio backing it, it does have a writer and now a star attached to it.

Tom Hardy, who played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and Shinzon in Star Trek: Nemesis for you trekkies, will play Sam Fisher. Now if we can just get Michael Ironside to dub his voice in for the entire movie we will be set.

This has been a big few weeks for Ubisoft on the big screen. To go along with the Splinter Cell announcement they also have the Assassin’s Creed film with Michael Fassbender set to begin production next year.

  • Assassin’s Creed 3 Sells Over 3 Million Copies In First Week

People Sure Do Love George Washington

Ubisoft has just reported their first half numbers for the 2012-13 fiscal year and have announced that Assassin’s Creed 3 is estimated to have sold more than 3.5 million copies in its first week in release.

I think we were all expecting Assassin’s Creed 3 to pop a big number but that is a huge amount of games. It is over double the sales from last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. It seems the swap from Italy to the American Revolution is just what this series needed.

Ubisoft still has a strong lineup for the rest of the year as well with Far Cry 3, Just Dance 4 and seven titles releasing on Nintendo’s Wii U. It is basically the exact opposite of the THQ article I posted this morning.
