Sony has announced a new design for the PS Vita that is 15% lighter and 20% thinner than the existing model. It will come with 1GB of built-in memory and carry an extra hour of battery life.
The trade off here is that the screen will be a 5 inch LCD instead of the beautiful OLED screen that Vita owners have enjoyed since last year. For my money I would just buy the model with the OLED screen because of how crisp and clear everything looks.
The new Vita will also come in different colors including white, black, light blue, brown, pink and yellow. It will release in Japan on October 10th. No date was given for release in the west.
Playskool is releasing a Doctor Who version of Mr. Potato Head which completely kills the Don Rickles voice that is always in my head from Toy Story. The exiting eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, gets the honors of being the basis for the toy.
Order yours here and read the rather unique description below.
The Eleventh Doctor as played by “MASH” Smith! Hop in the TARDIS with Mr. Potato Head as he pays homage to the last known survivor of “Galli-Fry”, DOCTOR WHO in his quirky eleventh incarnation! Set comes complete with 8 removable parts and pieces.
Damn you Hot Toys. I have done very well as a nerd collector to not spend $200+ on your amazingly detailed figures with interchangeable heads and hands and various accessories. Even though I have given serious thought to many including your Agent Coulson, Loki and Jack Nicholson Joker, but now you have gone and finally crossed the line with your Brandon Lee Crow figure.
I have to have it.
It will find a place on my wall of collectibles and while people may look down upon me for the hurt I will put on my bank account for it, he will stand there proudly nevertheless. I will just simply look at my wallet and say, “Can’t rain all the time”.
Check out the rest of Hot Toys beautiful collection here.
This week is one of the biggest of the nerd calendar year. Tens of thousand of comic fans, movie buffs, cosplayers and more will flock to San Diego for the biggest Comic-Con of the year. Every year the event grows larger and larger and this year is no exception. Now there is way too much going on this week for everyone to see everything (if you are one of the lucky bastards going), so we will list the bigger events for the week. For the full rundown go visit the SDCC webpage.
Let’s go!

-The Walking Dead 10th Anniversary Panel- 4:15PM-5:15PM (Room 6A)
It is quite wonderful the trinkets you can find out there with some time and patience. Take for instance this glowing life bar necklace, available from Critical Hit Shop on Etsy for only $16. They come with a 18,20 or 22″ chain and instantly add +5 to respect from me if I see you wearing one.
You can also order the necklace in depleted values like “Mostly Dead or “Mostly Alive”. Be sure and check out the rest of the items they offer including blue mana necklaces. You spend like $20 in Starbucks a week, you can get one of these.
Why can’t one day…just one day…go by without me wanting to buy some random item when there is so much more I could be doing with my money like saving or making it rain Pacman Jones-style?
These rather awesome looking 3D night lights are done by 3D Light FX and can be found at all Target stores nationwide. They retail for only $25 which is a steal to me. If you have kids that are into the Marvel movies this should be a no brainer and if you are a fat nerd that likes bright shiny things that make you feel safe at night this will be in your (my) room soon.
The heroes available are: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man. Go and check out the complete line on the 3D Light FX site.
Happy Birthday America! 237 years ago we began the only we knew how; by signing a paper and shooting things. We here at Nerd Rating love the entire world, but since America is where we reside, here are five moments (not all necessarily patriotic) to get those red, white and blue juices flowing.
I am here to make sure you have a good Friday so here is a wonderful piece of Harley Quinn cosplay from the people at atomic-latex.com. They have made me waste a little more than a few minutes on their website. Purely for investigative reasons for this post of course.
If you are a serious cosplayer then you need to give them a look. If you are a Harley Quinn fan like me…
For those of you who (a) like me, are addicted to Kickstarter, or (b) like me, enjoy musicals (particularly funny ones), or (c) unlike me, have not yet grown tired of this zombie craze, then this is for you.
Ryan McHenry, the man who brought us Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal, has decided that a full-feature Zombie Musical is his next goal, and is using Kickstarter to raise just over $150,000 for the job. For as little as $1.50, you can become an executive producer or even have your own “____ won’t eat his/her cereal” clip made exclusively for you.
This is exactly what I look for from Kickstarter — fun ideas and fun incentives, and this campaign will definitely get some of my money.
With new consoles come the inevitable third-party accessories, but Nyko showed off one at E3 that actually caught my eye.
This is the Nyko Smart Clip and it is a simple idea that will most likely find its way into my living room. It is a plastic clip that attaches to either your PS4 or Xbox One controllers and had a rubberized grip that can hold any iPhone, Android, Windows or Blackberry phone as you game. With the integration of Smartglass and other second screen experiences, the Smart Clip looks like a useful option.
Also for someone, like me, that texts while gaming this is a huge help. Thanks Nyko!
The Nyko Smart Clip will release this fall. No price was given.
