It looks like after seven years the Spartans still hold sway over the box office. The follow-up to 2007’s 300 easily opened at #1 with $45.1 million. Even better was its international gross of $87.8 million meaning the sequel, which only had a budget of $100 million, is in the black after one weekend.
Mr. Peabody and Sherman, playing to a way different crowd than 300, opened in second with $32.5 million. Non-Stop had a strong second weekend bringing in $15.3 million. The LEGO Movie held strong in fourth.
Next week sees the release of two more high profile movies: Aaron Paul’s Need For Speed and the return of Veronica Mars. Guess which one I will be seeing, marshmallows.
1. 300: Rise of the Empire- $45.1 million/ $45.1 million

After nine years we are finally getting another Sin City movie. If there is one thing Robert Rodriguez is good on it is delivering on promises. Just look at the first two Machete’s as proof.
A Dame To Kill For takes place before the events in the first Sin City featuring some of the returning cast like Mickey Rourke as Marv, Bruce Willis as John Hartigan and Jessica Alba as Nancy. Some roles have been recast including Dennis Haysbert taking over the role of Manute for the late Michael Clarke Duncan. Josh Brolin plays Marv but it will be explained how he looks like Clive Owen in the first movie.
Confused yet? It’s Frank Miller, get used to it.
Sin City: A Dame To Kill For releases on August 22nd.
Here are the quick hits today in the world of movies, TV, games, cd rates, ammunition sales, whatever catches our fancy.
Movies
Annie
Here is the trailer for Annie starring Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz and Rose Byrne. Be warned: once you watch it, you can’t unwatch it. Personally I am waiting on the remake of Pootie Tang with Robert Downey, Jr., Jonah Hill and Zachary Quinto.
Captain America: The Winter Solider
Watch a four-minute preview of the new Marvel movie over on Fandango.
TV
Game of Thrones
There is a rap album based on Game of Thrones. Not just that, but it is funded by HBO. I can’t make this shit up. It features tracks by Big Boi, Common and others. The title? Catch The Throne.
You can listen to Big Boi’s track “Mother of Dragons” here.
Games
LEGO The Hobbit
The newest trailer for LEGO The Hobbit is in the style of Ocean’s 11 and you will be a better person for watching it.
Mario Kart 8
Nintendo will be releasing a limited edition of the Wii U game with a blue Koopa shell statue. It will look perfect next to my other shelves of limited edition game items I get for some reason.
The man who used to be Bucky is the latest poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This is easily the best of the bunch. With a little under a month to go until release, I am getting the nerd shakes because of excitement.
It could also be MS, but I hope not.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier releases on April 4th.
Seems Scarlett Johansson went and got herself knocked up. She is due this summer and a growing belly does not exactly work with her costume in the Avengers sequel. To make sure they get her scenes in, she will begin filming her parts April 5th and finish as quick as possible so it will not affect the rest of the movie and Ryan Reynolds can cry himself to sleep knowing he is not the father.
Frozen
As popular as the song “Let It Go” is from Frozen, there are some times you just don’t sing the Oscar-winning tune. Here are some examples. Be prepared to laugh (or cry).
TV
Gotham
The series has cast its young Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. David Mazouz will play Bruce and Camren Bicondova is Selina.
Fargo
Here is a new trailer for the FX show based on the Coen Bros. movie. It is pretty much a normal shopping day in Alabama.

HBO Go launches today on the PS3 at long last. Now you can watch all the True Detective and Game of Thrones you want on your Playstation. Murder and incest for everyone!
Playstation 4
Sony has announced that the PS4 has sold over 6 million consoles since its launch last November. With sales continuing to be strong, could Sony get to 20 million by year’s end?
Chris Evans may take a break from acting after his Marvel contract is up.
“I think when I’m done with this Marvel contract, I’ll take a little break from acting, with acting, you’re one piece in a very big puzzle. It’s like you helped buy a gift but you don’t know what the gift is, so you come back and see the movie. Sometimes it’s nice, sometimes it’s tragic. This process [directing], you’re involved in every single decision. If I hadn’t done it, I’d be really kicking myself. At the time, it was a daunting task for a number of reasons, but in hindsight it was the right move.”
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Here is a new poster with Mark Wahlberg holding either a fancy ass gun or a prop sword from the World of Warcraft movie he found laying around and decided “what the hell”.
TV
The Walking Dead
For the first time since the plodding Season 2, an episode of The Walking Dead bored me. The name of the episode should have been a warning; it was titled “Still”.
Rob Zombie
The rocker/director is developing a limited series based on the Charles Manson murders on Fox. The series will “tell converging stories of people and events leading up to and after the murders, from shifting points of view.” Everything about this seems like a win.
Late Night with Seth Meyers
Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart are the kings of Twitter and they are now the kings of late night after taking over Late Night this past Friday.

Games
Mass Effect
Bioware has stated that they have discussed releasing a remastered Mass Effect Trilogy for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. I approve of this. If they can make it as good as the recently released Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, I will gladly play through them again.

Nintendo will release a Yoshi-themed 3DS XL on March 14th for $199.99. Yoshi can be manly. I may get it…shut the fuck up.
Toys
Superman
Sideshow Collectibles is making a Premium Format Figure featuring the once and always Superman, Christopher Reeve. Check out the sneak peek.
Even Jesus couldn’t take down Liam Neeson this weekend, but seeing as Neeson played Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia series, we will call it a 1-2 finish for the Lord.
There is almost one sure thing in Hollywood; if Neeson has a new action movie opening, it will open at #1. Non-Stop finished with $30 million beating Son of God which made way more than expected considering people had already seen the movie.
What’s that?
Yep, Son of God is most of the Jesus story that was shown in History Channel’s big miniseries, The Bible, with deleted scenes added in to make a movie. Brilliant move seeing as Son of God brought in $26.5 million.
My brain hurts a bit.
The LEGO Movie fell to third with $21 million, crossing $200 million domestically. Frozen continued its wonderful run becoming the newest movie to cross $1 billion worldwide.
