  • Rumor Control: Is Ben Affleck’s Batman Costume Based On Batman: Noel?

    024-25

The good people at CBM.com have some new rumors kicking around about Ben Affleck’s car and costume in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. First off, it seems that Cadillac is indeed working on the new version of the Batmobile. The new vehicle should be more of a car design and a far cry from the Tumbler seen in the Nolan trilogy.

Now onto the costume which is the exciting part. Their sources are saying that Affleck’s costume will be based on the Lee Bermejo graphic novel, [amazon_link id=”1401232132″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Batman: Noel[/amazon_link], which was released in 2011 and has become regular Christmas reading for me since. It is a retelling of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol with Batman, The Joker and an actual glimmer of hope at the end. Also, off subject, if you have not read Bermejo’s graphic novel, [amazon_link id=”1401215815″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Joker[/amazon_link], then you are missing out badly.

As far as the costume, I love the idea. It is a realistic looking fabric with body armor look and the cowl should fit Affleck’s version of Batman great.

  • First Trailer For X-Men: Days Of Future Past

    poster-trio

Bryan Singer is returning to the X-Men franchise in a big way with next year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. The movie takes from Chris Claremont’s classic time travelling story from 1980. In this version it appears Logan is the one doing the time travelling instead of Kitty Pryde. He is sent back to the 70’s by Professor X to convince his disenchanted past self of the threat of Bolivar Trask and the Sentinel army that is being created to wipe out all mutants.

The trailer is a who’s who of characters that have been in previous X-Men movies including new ones like Bishop (FTW). We also get to see Peter Dinklage as the caterpillar mustached Trask. Sadly, there is no Sentinel sighting or Evan Peters as Quicksilver but you don’t want to give away all the goodies on the first trailer.

To put it mildly, this trailer is already better than X-Men 3.

X-Men: Days of Future Past releases on May 23, 2014.

How about one final trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire? I liked the first movie but we get it, Katniss is awesome at the bow and the President is a dickbag. I am ready to see this so I can watch how badass Finnick is in the movie.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire releases on November 22, 2013.

Leave it to Johnny Knoxville to throw a wrench in the normal Hollywood proceedings. Gravity seemed set up to finish first for the fourth week in a row but America can not deny their enduring love of all things Jackass. The comedy brought in $32 million far surpassing the estimates of $19 million. I think it is easy to say that we will be getting a Jackass 4 or Bad Grandpa 2 before we know it.

Gravity continued its amazing run bringing in $20.3 million and its worldwide total now sits at $364 million. Ridley Scott’s The Counselor was a disappointment this weekend only taking in $8 million. I figured more people would be interested in seeing Cameron Diaz have sex with a car but I guess not. And yes, I said have sex “with” not “in” a car.

Next week will get a mega sized boost with Thor: The Dark World releasing. I am interested to see how well it performs being the first solo Marvel movie after Avengers not involving Tony Stark and being Marvel’s first fall release.

    1. Bad Grandpa- $32.0 million/ $32.0 million

    2. Gravity- $20.3/ $199.8

    3. Captain Phillips- $11.8/ $70.0

    4. The Counselor- $8.0/ $8.0

    5. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2- $6.1/ $100.6

    6. Carrie- $5.9/ $26.0

    7. Escape Plan- $4.3/ $17.4

    8. 12 Years a Slave- $2.1/ $3.4

    9. Enough Said- $1.5/ $13.0

    10. Prisoners- $1.0/ $59.1

  • First Look At Dwayne Johnson As Hercules

    dwayne-johnson-hercules-fast-furious-7

We have seen plenty of teaser images from Dwayne Johnson on his Twitter from the filming of next summer’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars but now he has tweeted the first image of him in all his bearded glory. And as proof that he is the busiest actor going he tweeted the first image of Hobbes on the set of Fast & Furious 7.

Seriously. I don’t know what your image of Hercules is in your head. It may be the Disney version or Kevin Sorbo or some imaginary version you have always thought of but it looks like Johnson’s Hercules will take all of their heads off and sh** down their necks.

Hercules: The Thracian Wars releases on July 25, 2014.

  • First Trailer For Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Sorry Thor. Even though you are only a few weeks away from your second movie my Marvel countdown has already switched to Cap’s second adventure. Captain America is my second favorite Marvel movie and I am looking forward to The Winter Soldier much more.

The first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier has just been released and can I just give a good hearty “holy look at Cap’s new costume, wait it looks like an awesome political thriller, hold on it’s The Falcon, this is too insanely good, did The Winter Soldier just catch his shield shiiiiiiiiiiiit”.

For those of you who could not get into the first Captain America because of the World War II setting, may I introduce you to the kick ass Captain that should get you excited.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier releases on April 4, 2014.

Don’t think that Thor is the only mythical God returning to theaters this winter. Ron Burgundy is on the path to redemption in the new trailer for Anchorman 2 that has just been released.

Anchorman 2 releases on December 20th.

  • New Poster For Captain America: The Winter Soldier

    hr_Captain_America__The_Winter_Soldier_8

Captain America is standing tall over our nation’s capital in the new poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I like to imagine that the reincarnated/cloned/magically resurrected Agent Coulson is standing behind him with his blood-stained trading cards. Cap will face a familiar person in The Winter Soldier, who has his sights set on taking revenge.

A teaser trailer will be coming this week also giving us our first look at Cap’s second solo movie.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier releases on April 14, 2014.

  • Weekend Box Office- October 18-20, 2013

Not even a blood-spattered Carrie could take down Gravity this week. For the third week in a row the Alfonso Cuarón film took the top spot at the box office grossing $31 million. It looks like the only movie that can bring it down to Earth will be Thor: The Dark World on November 8th.

The remake of the classic Stephen King novel and 1976 movie finished in third with $17 million ahead of all other new releases this week which included Escape Plan and The Fifth Estate.

    1. Gravity- $31.0 million/ $170.6 million

    2. Captain Phillips- $17.3/ $53.3

    3. Carrie- $17.0/ $17.0

    4. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2- $10.1/ $93.1

    5. Escape Plan- $9.8/ $9.8

    6. Prisoners- $2.0/ $57.3

    8. The Fifth Estate- $1.7/ $1.7

    9. Runner Runner $1.6/ $17.5

    10. Insidious Chapter 2- $1.5/ $80.9

  • Hans Zimmer May Not Want To Do Batman VS. Superman. I Agree

Hans Zimmer has spent the last eight years crafting the cinematic music for the DC movie universe. He has handled every installment of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy and this year’s Man of Steel. When it comes to 2015’s huge team-up film, the composer is not so sure he wants to return to the studio.

“Honestly, I’m just sort of grappling with that right now. Quite seriously, the thought right now is that no, I don’t want to go and take what I did with Chris and just plonk it into another movie. There isn’t one good reason to do it, and there are so many good reasons not to do it.

Zack hasn’t talked to me about it, so I don’t have to worry about it! I’ll worry about it when I have to worry about it, and then, if I’m lucky, I’ll have an idea. If I have an idea, I can do something with that, but if I don’t have an idea, then my good idea is going to be, ‘Get somebody else.’”

Now first off, I loved Zimmer’s work on all four films. Yes, it can get a bit repetitive. The Dark Knight is by far the most complete soundtrack of the bunch but all four of them are instantly recognizable. His work on Man of Steel this year was especially commendable considering whoever does music for a Superman film is always living in the shadow of John Williams.

That being said, I hope he does take a break and let someone else take a shot at it. There are many composers who could make this soundtrack memorable. First on my list would be Michael Giacchino. His work on 2009’s Star Trek and this year’s Star Trek Into Darkness were wonderful and for anyone who doubts him, just go and listen to the Up soundtrack for which he won an Oscar. I can still tear up to that music.

There would be no problem going with someone unexpected also like Batman: Arkham City composer Nick Arundel who absolutely killed the music for that game.

Whoever is hired they have a massive task ahead of them. They have to bring the sense of hope that Superman embodies as well as craft a new Batman theme that must accompany the most scrutinized actor to ever play the part.

Who would you like to bring their talents to Batman vs. Superman?
