The newest game in the Call of Duty series has grossed 1 billion dollars in its first 15 days of release, one day faster than last year’s Modern Warfare 3. Every year people begin to wonder if this is the year that Call of Duty hits a saturation point and every year sales indicate that the military shooter is still the biggest gaming event of the year. Now we know this can’t last forever but who can blame Activision for riding this train for as long as they can.
Activision Blizzard’s Bobby Kotick had this to say about sales of the newest Call of Duty.
“The release of Call of Duty has been one of the most significant entertainment events of each of the last six years. Since Call of Duty was launched, cumulative franchise revenues from players around the world are greater than current worldwide box office receipts to date for the top-10 grossing films of 2012 combined. Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for Harry Potter and Star Wars, the two most successful movie franchises of all time.”
